House Impeaches Blagojevich Again, Gov's Sister-In-Law Lone 'No' Vote

The new Illinois House has voted 117-1 to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich with his sister-in-law as the lone "no" vote.

Rep. Deborah Mell voted Wednesday not to impeach the two-term governor. Her sister is married to Blagojevich.

Wednesday's House action reaffirms the previous impeachment vote.

Illinois House Speaker spokesman Steve Brown says the second impeachment vote was needed because of the upcoming Senate trial on whether to remove Blagojevich from office.

Brown says the previous vote had expired. Legislators want to be sure that his impeachment stands.

The new House began its 96th session Wednesday.

Blagojevich was first impeached by the House on Friday, more than a month after his arrest on federal charges that he tried to sell official government action for campaign contributions or a plush job.

this is an excellent point. what exactly is patti mell blagojevic doing on a non-profit board with burris' business partner. did this have anything to do with burris being nominated? this may not be 'pay-for-play' but it certain reeks of quid-pro-quo. question: when was patti appointed? question: what role did burris and/or his business partner play in that appointment? question: did burris and/or his business partner discuss either the board appointment or the senate seat with blago prior to either happening? question: how much is patti making as a memeber of this "non-profit" board, and what exactly is she doing to earn that salary? these are indeed urgent questions !

i really hope illinoisans, and chicagoans in paritcular, feel emboldened as a result of this mess, rather than despair. i'd like to see everyday chicagoans think for themselves, and on the next election day, rise up and toss out all of the aldermen like Mell and others who put the profit of their family and friends ahead of the intersts of chicago. i'd like to see them rise up and toss out this incredibly asinine mayor we have who is only interested in having a legacy that outdoes his father's, and that complete idiot Elmo Stroger, and the patently corrupt Deb Mell with them.

Since the Governor presided over the Senate and swore the Senators in, are they "tainted"?

I think not.

Since the Governor was performing his required duty as he did when he named a replacement for Obama, will they all refuse their seat ?

I think not.

The "tainted" theory was a cheap political stunt that has harmed the State of Illinois and all decent people who live in that state.

Those who took part and those who fell for it, should feel ashamed.

The Governor's duty was to appoint the person most qualified to represent his state, but because of the corruption allegations Blago now finds himself completely engulfed in, no decent, reputable politician with a sound mind would accept an appointment from him.

Burris may not be tainted per say, but he is not the person that should be representing my state.

it's too bad that deb mell's first vote as a state representative reveals that she is a complete tool who is incapable of representing the people and instead puts family interest first. she should be impeached next, since she seems unqualified for the job.
