The communal experience of next week's presidential inauguration will extend beyond the Mall in Washington to include movie theaters and even coffee shops across the country.

The inauguration coverage by the cable news channel MSNBC will be projected onto movie theater screens in 21 cities next Tuesday. The channel is also planning to announce a partnership with Starbucks to simulcast its coverage in 650 of the company's stores.

MSNBC and other news outlets are looking to capitalize on the heightened interest in the inauguration of Barack Obama, as watch parties are being planned in cities across the nation.

January 20, 2009 will be a big day in America. It's okay with me that they're having a big party for Obama's inauguration. It's probably the last party our country will be able to afford for a long, long time. And, after all, Obama will be our first black president (actually half-black half-white) and that is truly a wonderful thing.

I'm more excited about the fact that on January 20, 2009, 12:00 noon EST, the entire nation can rise up and rejoice: "WE SURVIVED BUSH." Kind of.

When the Polish Solidary union people won a national election, and got to take over the country, Lech Walesa supposedly said "To our misfortune, we have won." Because by that time, Poland was in as much financial trouble as the U.S. is now, with high unemployment and enormous debt.

I'm wondering if that should be the official motto of the Obama first term: "To our misfortune, we have won." It reminds me of Snoopy's "Drat."

Here's a suggestion for the introductory sentence of Obama's Inaugural Speech: "Nyahh, Nyahh, Nyahh! You can't hit me! Drat this fog! It's bad enough having to fight the Red Baron without having to fly in weather like this!"

Rough waters ahead. http://NABNYC.blogspot.com

Why are there no locations for viewing the inauguration in San Francisco or anywhere on the Peninsula?

Simulcast at noon in SF Civic Center Plaza.

Just stay away from Starbucks. The owner's a war pusher, and there's rBGH in the milk.

What is so special about this inauguration? Whay is this the first inauguration to be shown? Every four years we have an inauguration. Is it because Obama is black? If race is the issue, would that make it racial?

Well, for one, we can finally be rid of the current hideous administration. And for another, a lot of folks just love Obama -- actually more than ever loved Bush. There are a lot of us who want to be part of this. We worked hard and we're having a party to celebrate the start of reaping the benifits of our hard work.

Tim...really? you don't know what's special about this inauguration?

Maybe you can find the answer at Fox News...

Tim, your powers of deduction are amazing. Why don't you use that force for good in asking why we went to war in Iraq and where the 17 of the 19 hijackers are from?

i hear that the inauguration is costing $110 million ... that would feed a lot of poor and house a lot of homeless... so much for change

Maybe it's all part of getting American re-involved in the governmental process. We've been so uninvolved for so manty years that, really, we are to blame for the mess we are in now - we gave control to idiots like Bush and then let him do whatever he wanted.

Still, I have to agree with you. $110 million for this inauguration seems like a foolish waste of resources.

How about seeing this as an economic boon? Lots of folks using transportation and lots of small businesses (eg, vendors) getting a shot in the arm.

We're going to have inaugarations, and should probably be thankful that we still can. This is the least of our problems. There's way too much carping and whining from both sides.

Well, I think it's great that one can see the inauguration at a local movie theater with others. What a moment that will be!

As for Starbucks getting in on it...I just have to wonder about that.

My biggest concern for that day is getting the kids to school on time so I'm back in time to watch the swearing in! Being on the Left Coast we have to plan for these things ;)

I'll be keeping the kids home from school on this great day to witness history and to learn the many valuable lessons that will be offered to us all. They are in 1st & 2nd grade...old enough to remember "where they were" for the rest of their lives.

Plus, I know we can have it be such a great day of learning and celebration! Our Obama '08 yard signs were stolen every time we put them in the yard...but in the end, victory was ours...so the lessons have already begun.

It will be an exciting day; I hope all of you are able to share it in a special way with your kids as well

Peace
