Well, I'm going!!!!! See you on Tuesday President Obama!
Go, Linda! Wish I were as adventuresome as you, my family, friends, and all the other true-blue Obama supporters. Our Prez will be so proud. All of you there in D.C. will have the prayers of many behind you for safe traveling, good weather and smooth logistics.
I considered it seriously, not afraid of the cold, crowds, etc but @ age 55+ the thought of standing in a port-a-john line was the deciding factor. Instead, a group is gathering on Sunday to pray for President Obama & his family, share in a communion feast and a foot washing (very symbolic for this occasion). On Monday we're taking supplies to our new community homeless shelter and on Tuesday the workplace has cable TV & it's an all day inauguration party.
Too late. I have a hotel room, have purchased a new outfit and am preparing to partake of the festivities next week. Seeing it on TV is not the same as seeing it in person
My body will be in Florida but my heart and soul will be in DC. Wish I were younger, cold or else, I would not have missed this historic occasion. A few relatives and I will be content to watch EVERYTHING about this inauguration that is aired. I wish President Barack Obama and his family the best. I know that he will try his very best to dig us out of this horrific mess that he is inheriting from Bush and company. Let us pray that he will continue to receive spiritual guidance to do the job he is elected to do. I do not envy him the daunting task he has so graciously undertaken to save us from the slippery slope Bush and the Repugs were steering us. Let us remember that he WILL need enough time to get his policies implemented, b/c he will first have to undo all of Bush's senseless and illegal actions.
Amazing. A social media president. Obama's using social networks to their ideal forms of two-way communication, grassroots communication, and dialogue.
I'm in Canada, where's our Obama? We're also stuck with an old Conservative white guy.
To be fair, their Conservative party is at least as liberal as our progressive party. And I guess that means that their old white guy is about equal to a young black/latina woman here, if I've got my math right.
No kidding! I'm from Canada as well, and it would be nice to have some leadership here. Well, maybe we'll have a coalition government or a call for another election after January 27th, LOL!
I worked so very hard for Obama's election and I was so sure that he would win that I paid to travel(via bus) to this historic inauguration. I have the transportation and a nice hotel room. Since I've paid for it, I'm going on in the hopes that it will all work out. I hope so. I have my thermal undies, my gloves, my boots, etc. I am simply praying that it all works out.
Bless you, Delores. I hope its the most wonderful trip ever. Stay warm!
In my humble opinion, this post's silly and misleading headline is a blatant attempt to ferment more controversy among the liberals who swarm over this site.
I had planned to be there, but due to the bridge closings, I-95 closings, sold out trains, etc., Im forced to cancel my plans. I am really disappointed, and a little angry. It seems the people of Virginia are not welcome unless you arrive by train or bus. And those options are very limited, unlike the Maryland routes, which offer extra trains. What the heck? Did Obama forget he WON Virginia?
Well, I live in VA and I'm taking the Vienna line to DC. It's just that simple. Metro trains never sell out - there is no such thing - and you can buy a ticket the day of, although I got mine early. And VRE has only sold 75% of its tickets so there are tickets remaining. No one can nor should they drive into DC. The streets will be closed. I don't know what you're talking about. Sounds like you don't either.
Of all the things in life to get angry about this sure isn't one of them.
Let's give liberalntexas a break. After all, there aren't too many liberals in Texas and now he's got to face having "Bush" move back in.
I could tell you, but the post would be "disappeared".
Sniff, sniff...I LOVE THIS MAN!
Wow, your lips must be all puckered up from those sour grapes you're sucking on.
I still have my sticker on my car and my pins hanging from the rear view mirror and my Obama girl pin is still hanging from my purse. I don't yet have the heart to remove them. Although, I will not be in Washington Tuesday I did close my offices, gave my staff the day off and planned one hell of an inauguration party. We are expecting close to 600 people. Hope the food holds out and because we want everyone to be safe - we even arranged for cabs and designated drivers for those that over indulge in partying.
I'm keeping my stickers & pins up....for the duration.
That party sounds wonderful. Great that you gave your staff the day off. Have fun.
Why would you remove your Obama sticker? Just replace it w/ Obama '12 when the time comes. Now for all those crazies who still have the McCain/Palin stickers - take em off - you lost!!!
I have never been to washington and was so tempted to try to go. My heart wants me there but my 60 year old brain told me to stay home and watch on TV. I am a little afraid traveling alone that distance and not having anywhere to stay or knowing a soul going. Jeezzz, if this were the 60's i wouldn't have blinked!!!! lol
I feel the same way! I'm 58 and I remember the 60's!! This is so historic to our generation because of all the rioting and civil rights movement and cities burning and assassinations while I was in high school. Who would have ever believed this could happen in our lifetime? If I were younger, I would be there. But there will be an unbelievable amount of walking one will have to do to just get near the Capitol Building, and the crowds will make it impossible. Also, there's the bathroom issue. Were will all those millions of people go to the bathroom? I've been to Washington D.C., 4 times and while they do have a new visitors center at the Capitol now, it is the only place I know to use the bathroom for a looooooonnnnnng way and it cannot support that crowd. I can't imagine the wait line! I hope people wear depends!
Ever been there on the 4th? They have these new inventions called porta-potties. Instant bathroom! (yeah, snark - sorry). But srsly, bathrooms are the LEAST of the problems - if you aren't invited somewhere, you'll probably get a more complete experience from home.
Please travel to DC. It's a great town. Suggest "hooking up" with Elderhostel programs as a "senior" single traveler.
While my BODY will watch EVERY event on TV, absent the cold and predicted SNOW, my heart will be in DC!!
Yep. Those were the days. I'm happy to enjoy every moment of it on the tube and taping it as well. The idea of Elderhostel is a good one. But don't forget that visiting Washington some time in the next EIGHT years is going to be great as well. We visited when Shrub was in office...and the city was just missing that old "glow".
Shrub!! -ROTFLMAO
I'm with ya on this one honey. The older I get the smaller the crowd for me. I will watch every second on TV and record it too.
There are a lot of us there with you, Pegi. I take comfort in knowing I survived those glorious "60s" and am proud of knowing my limits now. There's still time ahead of us to makes our trips to DC. I've had the privilege of being there and as an American, I felt my soul was at rest once I took it all in.
