I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Kevin Bacon needs a job.

Last month New York Magazine revealed Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick were two of Bernie Madoff's victims, and may have lost everything they had but their real estate and checking accounts.

Bacon spoke to Life & Style Magazine about it at a Television Critics Association event:

"We'll march on. We have to. There¹s nothing you can do about it. You can't change what happened. Things could be worse. You remember that, and you go on with your life.

But Kevin was shocked by the news of Madoff's scam. "I didn¹t see it coming," he said.

Asked by Life & Style what he's currently working on, Kevin replied: "I don't have anything lined up right now, but I need to work, for obvious reasons."

Bacon is currently appearing in "Frost/Nixon" while his wife stars on TNT's "The Closer."

It's unfortunate that anyone has lost their money. However, those very wealthy clients of Madoff were gambling on making more. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that but I'm not shedding a single tear for them. They were already extremely fortunate - and rich beyond most people's dreams but they wanted more and were willing to take the gamble.

Was Bacon crying? or just saying what the deal is. And you don't gamble on anything to make your life better? Sorry for you. That includes, for example, paying a school to renew, upgrade or give a new set of, skills and you get to the door and the school is closed. No it didn't happen to me but it happened in my area to lots of people Aw "Shucks" happens. As Bacon said, move on.

I don't think I've seen a movie with Kevin Bacon that I didn't enjoy. What annoys me about the Madoff scandal is how so many people put everything but the kitchen sink into this fund. How about the old addage "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."

I'm sure Bacon makes more money off of his old movies being shown on TV than most people make in a year. I do not feel sorry for them. Anyone who loses his or her money because he or she is greedy is not someone deserving of pity.

How is investing your money being greedy? Sounds to me that you are jealous and petty.

I have to agree with you, Hnorc. What did Kevin Bacon ever do to make so many people wish ill on him - I mean besides Footloose?

Investing in itself isn't being greedy, but they didn't check out the investment thoroughly because they saw big returns. That's how Ponzi schemes work.

so...anyone who makes more money than 'most people' (ie YOU) deserves no compassion when swindled out of their savings? Bacon wasn't asking for your sympathy, he was just answering questions.

stop being so negative about the success of others

I was wondering about that also. What if someone became wealthy through hard work or a great idea? Does it suddenly make them a bad person that others are willing to pay money for their skills or product?

I'm not negative about it at all. However, it's silly that there is any attention given to people who have no hardship as victims of a swindler. They saw big returns and didn't do their homework.

"...anyone who makes more money than 'most people' (ie YOU)"

I'm sorry. I thought that someone who was in the wealthy 2% of the country and thus in the wealthiest fraction of a percent of the people in the world was wealthier than most people. My mistake; it's just me that they're wealthier than.

And, i wonder how people would be reacting if the name in the headline had been 'Paris Hilton' rather than 'Kevin Bacon'. I'm sure it would have been quite different.

I feel sorry for anyone who has a huge loss. No one wants to go from feeling secure to insecure.

Sympathy for him doesn't keep you from having sympathy from anyone else. Suffering doesn't need to be ranked. He's not asking for a handout.

Didn't he have far more than any one person needs from his pay checks? But he had to risk it to make even more. Was he afraid of being poorer than Madonna? Boo Hoo.

Bacon invested because he thought Madoff was LOW RISK.

Madoff got so much invested with him because of consistent returns, with little volatility. Madoff didn't get 20+ percent per year in the 1990's and was well below market performance then, but he showed about a ten percent return, every year, year after year.

it's odd, I'm depressed about watching my own money disappear, but somehow knowing that Kevin Bacon is in the same boat makes me feel better.

Must be some weird subconscious Footloose thing. I always knew I had something in common with him.

Kevin, now is the time, your public is calling. It's time to revive your big role.

No, not sad alcoholic teen Tim on the Guiding Light,

Wren McCormick, Mr. Dance Fever is back in Footloose II

Middle-aged women all over America are begging you- Please, Kevin, put back on your dancin' shoes.

Do it for your wife, do it for your family, do it for the money,

For God sake's man, these are desperate times, do it for your Country!

We're Holding out for a Hero Kevin, be a man, and please dance for us one more time.

Ukie, treat yourself to a viewing of Footloose--it's a quintessential 80s teen movie!

I bet Kevin would donate an entire second fortune if he could forever be FREE of the "Footloose" legacy!! LOL
He spent years loathing that connection! Only recently has he gotten to the point where it no longer absolutely infuriates him to be asked to dance, listen to the soundtrack, or spew stupid lines from Footloose.

Footloose is a highly OVER rated movie. I know it, many people know it, and most importantly, Kevin knows it. Collectively, our "love of Footloose" is nothing more than heartfelt nostalgia for our 1980's "youth"... Footloose II ?? Eeeewwwwwww...

I like Kevin Bacon but who really cares about a Hollywood movie star losing money? They make 1000 times more than they should. One movie should make up for an money loss.

I feel sorry for anyone who gets swindled. I read about them a few years ago. They were "green" before it was the in thing to do. They've been married a long time in Hollywood years and except for their acting, you don't really hear about them. No scandals or rumors, etc. They seem like a normal couple. They have talent to get other jobs so I'm sure they can recover. At least they have their house.

They might be a "nice family" but a very stupid family... Have they heard...you never put all your eggs in one basket? I would be very happy to contribute to a fund that would work on his personal appearance....that might help.

The Bacon's are a nice Hollywood family. I think the more that speak out as to their plights with Madoff the more that will see and appreciate a lot of people were scammed. There is no such thing as a free lunch folks and even today, people are buying into bad mortgages.
