TEHRAN (AFP) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that Tehran was waiting for a "fundamental change" of US policy under Washington's new administration headed by Barack Obama.

President-elect Obama said last week that Iran remained a threat to the United States but Washington must be "willing to initiate diplomacy" with the Islamic republic -- in contrast to the stand of outgoing President George W. Bush.

Ahmedinejad responds to direct diplomacy with flowers: "Your words are sweet like baklava at the end of a 40 day fast. Yours, MA."

Iran will have to change their policies as well but this won't happen until America starts to call out Israel on their behavior and start getting tough with them. I think what drives some of Iran's anger towards the US government is it's pro Israel policy under the Bush admin. In no way am I saying Obama and Clinton should turn their backs on Israel, because I mean come on, we all know Israel is America's eyes and ears in the region and has been for years. Obama needs to start holding Israel to account for their actions and they must start respecting the United Nations. They are are just extremists fighting extremists which means, there will be no end. There cannot be extremists on both sides. There needs to be some moderation injected in between. Whoa!! that didn't sound right at all!

There were some American soldiers in Vietnam who refused their officers' illegal orders. Perhaps there are Israeli soldiers who do the same.

Yes keep giving billinons to Israel, AIPAC could give two craps about Americans. They can commit crimes against America (see Pollard, Rosen) and get pardons.

Olmert can call bush and tell him to bend over and he complies. So to say we should treat Israel as a foreign country like any other, is not anti-semetic. It's just a necessary step if America cares about it's own citizens.

Ahmadinejad mentioned God and Jesus in his speech to the UN. Bush did not.

In light of Israel's genocide we need to rethink our policies in the Middle-East. This will be one of the tests for Obama, do we stop the 60 year failed policy of supporting Israel?

Muslims actually consider Jesus to be one of the great prophets. Bush thinks he IS Jesus.

Not sure what to make of this. Is that good or bad? I seem to think that some diplomacy needs to happen but at the same time we need to use extreme caution.

The oil giants have already been inside Iran, working closely with their government for some time now. China and the U.S. are cooperating with the Iranian government to work out deals to purchase some of their vast oil resources. If that means we are engaged in negotiations with terrorists, then you can blame Bush for that.

Personally, I'd like to see us develop more alternative sources of fuel instead. So does Obama.

Keep spreading extremely odious rhetoric like that. It insures your irrelevancy for decades to come. Don't forget the "pallin around with terrorists" rhetoric. That one really kills at the right wingnut cofee klatches.

"The first change we expect is that the United States should limit its interference (to) within its borders..."
Maybe Iran should stay out of the Israel-Palestinian conflict due to the fact that everyone knows Iran funds and trains Hamas with in its borders.

If the Iranian government would show some boldness by recognizing Israel's right to exist, and took positive steps to aid in the creation of a viable Palestinian state living in PEACE alongside Israel, and gave assistance in the form of economic aid for development of such a Palestinian state (and after all, Iran boasts of its "support" for the Palestinians) rather than weapons, and if the Iranian government would stop persecuting gays and hanging them, and if the Iranian government would stop having women stoned to death for 'adultery,' then I think that Iran would gain in credibility in the world community. Instead, Mr. Ahmadinejad continues with the same tired path while attempting to appear "reasonable." I admire the proud history and rich culture of the Persian people and wish for a day when Iran will enjoy true freedom and prosperity, with Iran, Israel and the Arab world as fast friends and allies. The current theocratic government in Tehran will not permit this.

Did Is ra el gave any chance to the world? ever?

After 911 Iran tried to solve their problems with the US. In 2003 they even suggested an "all in one" bargain that even included recognizing the state of Is ra el!

The fax came via the Switzerland embassy to the state dep. The answer from Bush? The Axis of Evil!

That was then when Iran had Khatami, a moderate as president.

Now? whit Irans Bush in power...?you never know!
I think the war in Gaza was also meant to cement the parts at their positions.. make it more difficult.
I hope Mr. Obama have enough courage to make the good decision and make something positive out of all the negative in past!

How about changing your policies. Start by getting a shave! You look like "House." Some new policies such as not executing children and gay people would go far too!

The Beard according to the Great Imams of Jurisprudence

Hanafi

Imam Muhammed (R.A.) writes in his book "Kitabul Aathaar" where he relates from Imam Abu Hanifa (R.A.) who relates from Hadhrat Haytham (R.A.) who relates from Ibn Umar (R.A.) that he (Ibn Umar) used to hold his beard in his hand and cut off which was longer. Imam Muhammed (R.A.) says that this is what we follow and this was the decision of Imam Abu Hanifa. Therefore, according to Hanafies, to shorten the beard less than a FIST LENGTH is HARAAM (taboo) and on this is IJMA.

Shafi'i

Imam Shafi (R.A.) in his Kitabul Umm states, "To shave the beard is HARAAM." (Shari Minhaj dar Shara Fasl Aqueeqa).

Maaliki

Shekh Ahmad Nafarawi Maliki in the commentary of Imam Abu Zayed's booklet states, "to shave the beard is without doubt haraam according to all Imams." It is also mention in "Tamheed" which is a commentary of "Muatta" (Sunnan Imam Malik (R.A.)) that to shave the beard is HARAAM and among males the only ones to resort to this practice (of shaving) are the HERMAPHRODITES.

Hanbali

The Hanbalies in the famous Al-Khanie'a Hanbali Fatawa Kitab state that "to grow the beard is essential and to shave it is HARAAM." Also in the Hanbali Mathab books "Sharahul Muntahaa" and "Sharr Manzoomatul Aadaab", it is stated "The most accepted view is that it is HARAAM."
