Howie Mandel

people.com:

Howie Mandel isn't surprised fans may have thought his hospital trip on Monday to treat an irregular heartbeat was an elaborate part of his NBC hidden camera series Howie Do It, but his experience getting treatment could make a whole reality show in itself.

"It was no treat for me, being the germaphobe that I am," Mandel tells PEOPLE. "It was really hard. I wouldn't put on the gown or the customary clothing. I remained clothed and in my boots on the gurney and in the hospital!"

Two of my least favorite "celebrities" ( I use that term loosely) are the twin creeps Howie Mandel and Richard Lewis.

Howie exploiting his germaphobia is akin to that other weirdo Richard Lewis exploiting his alleged drug /alcohol recovery & neurosis.

They both need to spend more time on a psychiatrists couch instead of the couches of The View, Jimmie Kimmel, Letterman and Leno

...and Richard Lewis."

Totally agree with Lewis.

He is never funny.

Howie needs to be on meds for what ails him. Working through a phobia doesn't work. That being said, being in hospital is hard if you're really sick, not phobic. Take a pill, Howie.

I love how the font they use for the title of "Howie Do It" in commercials makes it look like "Howie Dolt"

Sorry but I think his germophobia is more affectation than anything really really bad. How on Earth could he do shows, travel, deal with hundreds of people and claim to be germophobic?

As far as hospitals go, everything is washed and cleaned or at least in the two I was in, I watched them do it. Not just change the sheets but wipe down the railings, and various things around the bed with disinfectant. AND if he is so worried build his own little mobile hospital and travel with it.

And what does he do with his daughter? Make her go through a disinfectant shower before he allows her near him? Yeah I'm sure that is how he does it. and lord but how did the wife conceive? Immaculately?

Sorry but I call BS on Howie.

Having spent more than my fair share of time in the hospital and ERs, I have to say Mr Mandel did the right thing here. Lord only knows where or on who those gowns have been, not to mention having no idea where the instruments the doctors might have used on him might have been.

Trust me, I KNOW where they have been, and I do not want to use them or have anyone else use them if they can help it

You're so right. My husband went to the hospital for one day arthroscopic knee surgery. He wound up so sick a few days later with a horrible staph infection. He wound up back in the hospital for an entire week.

Suck it up, buttercup.

I'm so sick of people coddling his compulsive disorder. The way over these things is to go THROUGH them, not to run away.

Some people over-do it with their fear of germs, those same people probably have some of the nastiest habits, yet have a fear of shaking hands with others.

Normally I would agree with your post ... however, in the case of hospitals, I believe the gentleman's fear is completely rational ...

hospitals ARE dirty places. but no dirtier than nany where else. and this wack-job probably hindered his own medical care by rationalizing his mental illness. too bad.
