I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Well, it's just about time to say goodbye to George W. Bush, but before we do, we just have to look back at some of his more memorable quotes about the environment.

Austin, Texas, Dec. 20, 2000: "Natural gas is hemispheric. I like to call it hemispheric in nature because it is a product that we can find in our neighborhoods." (Source: Treehugger)

Washington, D.C. March 13, 2001: "There are some monuments where the land is so widespread, they just encompass as much as possible. And the integral part of the--the precious part, so to speak--I guess all land is precious, but the part that the people uniformly would not want to spoil, will not be despoiled. But there are parts of the monument lands where we can explore without affecting the overall environment." (Source: Slate)

Washington, D.C., January 6, 2009: "The new steps I've announced today are the capstone of an eight-year commitment to strong environmental protection and conservation." Check out this interesting graphic from the Natural Resources Defense Council illustrating the last eight years in environmental policy...

New Delhi, India, Mar. 2, 2006 "Obviously, nu-que-lar power is, uh, a renewable source of energy, and the less demand there is for non-renewable sources of energy, like fossil fuels, the better it off it is for the American people." Well, he got the second part right, but nuclear energy produced from uranium is, uh, not renewable as far as we know... (Source: Treehugger)

Washington, D.C., June 8, 2005: "We're spending money on clean coal technology. Do you realize we've got 250 million years of coal?" (Source: Slate)

Michigan, September 2000, explaining his energy policies: "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully." (Source: AP)

A Freudian slip made while addressing Australian Prime Minister John Howard at the APEC Summit, Sept. 7, 2007: "Mr. Prime Minister, thank you for your introduction. Thank you for being such a fine host for the OPEC summit."

And a bonus: "[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system."

Well, it's just about time to say goodbye to George W. Bush, but before we do, we just have to look back at some of his more memorable quotes about the environment. Austin, Texas, Dec. 20, 2000: "Na...

"Yeah, you go with your instincts which have no basis in science!"

Petroleum has never been produced in the laboratory. No experiment has ever been performed to make me consider the theory that petroleum is biotic. So we are dealing with theories here, and theories only.

Petroleum is abiotic. Get ahead of the curve on this one folks. It will be the standard theory in years to come. Think how proud you will be when you were the first one in your neighborhood to know this fascinating detail.

You're welcome.

Presidential mis articulation aside, he held off the global warming hoax snowball long enough for the roots of it's debunking to take. I see recent evidence we're in a cooling cycle caused them to change the name to 'climate change' hoax. I wonder if this is just a transition hoax to a 'global freezing' hoax?

Most of these are just humorous slips of the lip from a clumsy public speaker. Unfortunately, a lot of Bush's attitudes and public statements about the environment are wrong in ways that aren't at all humorous.

"[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system."

That one made my head hurt. I think I may need to go lay down and nap for a while.

But, but , but... the WH has put out a great resource of Bush's accomplishments, including those on the environment. He really did great things for it. Check it out (caution 15 mb pdf file).

Reading this piece of flagrant propaganda, you'd think Bush was a true greenie. Amazing on how many lies can be put into one 50 page document.

Just trying to get ahead of the wave of accurate, but negative, historians by providing a pro-Bush source for sympathizers to quote.

"Natural gas is hemispheric."

Well yeah, anything appears dumb, this far out of context. The President was saying that Natural Gas is a solution contained in the Western Hemisphere. By "Our Neighborhoods" he meant Canada and Mexico.

It still seems dumb IN context, sorry. The guy mangled the English language and having him represent this country for 8 long years was an embarrassment to millions of us who didn't vote for him or his wretched policies.

Oil and coal are also found in this hemisphere and, like natural gas, in the continental U.S. Also like coal and oil, natural gas supplies are not limitless and are becoming harder and harder to access easily.

It's possible Bush was referring to the fact that natural gas does not travel well, and therefore we tend to get it from the "neighborhood," which of course we also do with coal for different reasons.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:30 PM on 01/19/2009

Wrong, estimations of natural gas reserves have increased almost every year since records were kept. With directional and horizontal drilling, natural gas is becoming easier and easier to access.

If you followed the link i provided, you would see what he was talking about. No speculation necessary.

He likes natural gas, because we don't have to travel outside the hemisphere to get it, and our neighbors, Canada and Mexico, have lots of it.

hilarious and hysterical. Where was America when this man was ruling for the last 8 years?
It's funny, when i look at him now, i feel a little sorry.

I hope you'll reconsider. He doesn't seem to be the least bit sorry for what his policies have wrought. Millions of us out of work, the economy in shreds, thousands of war casualties, bin Laden still on the loose, our standing in the world diminished, and all he cares about is his legacy. I don't think he deserves anyone's pity or sympathy.

Bush's basic defect is: his PARENTS HAD NOT taught to him to RESPECT anyone.
Bush was taught that everybody was fair-game for his ABUSE.
Bush was taught to LIE.
Bush was taught that his NARCISSISM is okay and second to none.
Bush Family is a sick and dangerous bunch.

What frightens me is how few people realized this from the very beginning. My spidey senses went off the first time I ever heard him speak.

Mine too, He has the communication skills of a bar fly. I kept saying "does anyone else see this wreck?" These past eight years was a train wreck in slow motion that I anticipated, the carnage the debris the lost of lives.

The man is a COMPLETE failure, and will go down in history as THE worst president of the Century or the History of Presidents.

He was never educated enough to be the PRESIDENT, was a terrible Governor, and its embarrassing
to say that he is a Texas ! He never cared about THE people, but the people who voted for him not once BUT twice are also to blame for the Greatest and worst Blunder of their lives.

To hold millions and millions of peoples lives at stake, and even more their hearts, their dreams...all
invested in the Wrong man. A man that had so many chances to make good and only broke peoples
hearts and gets up there and makes excuses after excuses in the face of Good Honest Working and
caring people.

Now let's be nice to George, he had a tragedy at his ranch lately. His library burned down. Lost both books. He wasn't even done coloring one of them.

I've got to give credit to the late, great Utah Phillips. I first heard him say that about Spiro Agnew. Rest in peace, friend.

Thanks for the memories, HufPost. Absolutely hysterical. The good news, even though he will be gone from the center stage, we still have the upcoming star of malaprops and gibberish from alaska to look forward to in the future. Don't know which is funnier; that race is neck-and-neck I think.

Interesting fact: There is a plastic surgeon that is using the fatty tissue he removes from his patients during cosmetic procedures, to fuel his automobile. He does this with their blessing. This was posted on AP recently. It seems to me that if someone can convert human "tissue", such as body fat into a viable fuel, then maybe...just maybe...now leap with me here...the fatty tissue of extinct dinosaurs could convert over a period of millions of years into a "fossil" fuel, like...oh oil, maybe? We are all comprised of materials that have origins in the inorganic, or as this poster referred to as "abiotic". As carbon based organisms, we share elements that things like rocks (like the ones in this posters head), and most minerals have. Stay away from the Dianetics and Scientology stuff, your killing me. LOL!
