I think Jesus and Mohamed would be so proud of what is being done in their names! Just as with all fundamentalist religions, these extemist Muslims pick and chose from the Quran. Fundamentalist Christians pick and chose from the Bible. The world would be a much better place if folks stopped believing that their idea of God is the only correct one and everyone else should rot in Hell (or if you are a 12 year old rape victim, be stoned to death).
My mother didn't raise her children on any religion except the Golden Rule which appears in some form in most religions. Guess what? It worked. We are all decent human beings and we act that way without feeling the threat that some God is going to smack us if we don't.
To quote a CSN song "so many people have died in the name of God..."

There is a Whitehead article on this site that explains the UN doc--which got a lot of signatures--that the Arab union circulated. Under it, criticism of religion is not allowed. So, if a religious group does something terrible, and you criticize it, they can say they were just following their religion--and you, the critcizer, are then considered to be breaking international law.

BTW, how did America treat general Benedict Arnold? They executed him for treason. To this day, his name is a slur.
Hey, you stick your boot far enough up someone's #$^^& and it gets stuck. While you're trying to figure out how to remove it, his meaner, ruthless, brutal brother comes along and knocks you down and out.
Somalia has been a disaster at America's hands for almost 20 years.

BTW, before the Somali dictator Syed Barre was toppled, he awarded American oil and energy firms exclusive rights for all of Somalia. This was the underlying motivation for the first American invasion of Somalia which was made under the pretext of saving starving people, and the Ethiopian army invasion- America's proxy- was done with energy and oil in mind yet again.

Wake up to America's skeleton in the closet.

Benedict Arnold was not executed for treason. In fact, he was not executed at all.

Benedict Arnold was never captured by the Americans. He escaped back to England.

This isn't news, its propaganda. Somalia is in a terrible way. And folks seem to forget that there was relative law, order, and stability in Somalia for 6 months before Bush ordered the Ethiopian army to invade based on the alleged presence of some 'terrorists' somewhere in Somalia. During those 6 months, there were no pirates. Those were the 6 months of the Islamic Courts Union, UIC.

Meanwhile for 15 years, vessels from around the world have been dumping all kinds of waste in Somali waters and fishing Somali fisheries (where the waste isn't). They've been destroying Somali waters for years. That includes European vessels.

So folks, you reap what you sew.

I strongly doubt that the people were safe and secure under radical Islamic leadership. That sounds like propaganda to me.

One should not comment on histories they do not properly understand - your 'doubt' is revealing, not only because it indicates a lack of understanding of contemporary Somali history, but also that it is clearly fueled by your paranoid bigotry and lack of understanding of 'Islamism' itself. Learning about things is good for you.

Of course, execution for apostasy is in itself evil, but the charge of apostasy here was more an excuse to execute a political rival (doesn't make it any less tragic). The stoning of the 12 year old girl is reprehensible.

I agree. The Islamists in Somalia are a real threat to the citizenry. The stoning of the little girl is no surprise. We need to be aware, because Sharia Court is now operating in the UK, and they have been trying to get it in Canada--Ontario--for years.

I hope we work hard with the UN to create international law that protects people from Islamism.

I wonder what punishment the Isamist militants would recommend for the pirates coming from their soil?
