WASHINGTON — Vice President Dick Cheney pulled a muscle in his back while moving boxes and will be in a wheelchair for Tuesday's inauguration ceremony.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Cheney was helping to move into his new home outside Washington in McLean, Va., when he injured his back.

His doctor recommended that he needed a wheelchair for the next couple of days.

Perino said that Cheney is OK otherwise.

"The vice president is looking forward to being there for tomorrow's historic inaugural activities," Perino said.

I just wonder if maybe he hid something important in that wheelchair. Maybe something to defeat metal detectors. It's the perfect disguise, you know?

Doesn't anyone else look at this Cheney-in-a-wheelchair story with a little suspicion? I can't imagine this man, with his bad ticker lifting any part of his body to move a box. That's what the movers do.

After watching the ceremony, I decided that he decided to put himself in the wheelchair so he wouldn't have to suffer the embarrassment of being expected to interact with anyone at the ceremony. They simply parked him between the glass partition and his wife and no one had to speak to him.

It looked better for him to be in a wheel chair than to have every single legislature on the platform (D or R) snub him. Sadly, it's acceptable or almost expected to snub someone in a wheel chair. If he were walking around, people would either have to look him in the eye or make a point out of looking away- especially after he was no longer VP. Also, there would be a chance that someone would say something unflattering to him if he was up at eye level. No one is going to lean over to insult him tho.

Did anyone else notice that Cheney in the wheelchair looked like Mr. Potter from "It's a Wonderful Life"?

Sixty-seven-year-old, Vice-President, with bad heart, hurt his back "moving boxes." Really?

No...I don't believe he was moving boxes.

Biden's body language as he was walking behind Cheney in the wheel chair with his nurse to go to their car to go to the ceremony made me spew my coffee. You could just see his disbelief.

Also - the snap throw-off salute he gave to Bush as Marine One was taking off.

No body wants him at the inauguration... Why doesn't he just stay at home !

Is he wanting sympathy?

You are aware that Cheney is related to O, right?

This is O's day, so I'll let him have it in peace, but in the near future I'll be watching his decisions very carefully... I suggest you folks do the same... Enough with the cheerleading already!

We're all related, don't you know that?

The left has been watching Obama closely all along and speaking out whenever appropriate. We are not like toe-the-line Republicans. Haven't you been paying attention?

I'd rather he came in a full body cast, with only the use of his eyes.

man, wouldnt that give some satisfaction to so many people who want that man's head on a platter?

Couldn't he have gotten one of the Gitmo detainees to move those boxes? What I'm concerned with is that he will be living very, very close to Washington DC. It shouldn't be too hard to get the supeonas out on him, or haul him in in handcuffs to the Capitol to sit in front of Kucinich or Conyers and lie under oath! but then again being so close to CD makes me a bit nervous that he'll want to pull off some Blackwater led coup d' etat.
