CNN Grooms Sanjay Gupta's Replacements

If the CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta becomes surgeon general, who will replace him as the pre-eminent doctor on television news? As any hospital would, CNN apparently has interns waiting in the wings.

Four doctors are moonlighting for CNN on the company's new health site, While each has a day job and probably would not replace Dr. Gupta directly if he departed CNN, they are supplementing the network's medical reporting.

CNN had planned to announce the new Web site on Jan. 7, but the news that Dr. Gupta had been offered a position in the Obama administration emerged the previous day. Suddenly, it did not make sense to put out a press release about Dr. Gupta and his new team of specialists.
