I Like ItI Don’t Like It

With less than 48 hours left of the Bush presidency, U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's spokesman said Sunday that Murkowski had asked the White House to pardon the former senior senator of Alaska, Ted Stevens.

Michael Brumas, Murkowski's communications director, said the pardon request was made earlier this month. He declined to give other details, including whether Stevens himself wanted the pardon and had asked Murkowski to pursue it on his behalf. "It's just a very sensitive issue and a sensitive time -- a couple days left," Brumas said. "We're just not saying anything more."

oops, too late Ted. Dubya's finally gone and left you high and dry. Do the crime, do the time.

You'e 85, not a lot of time left to clear your dirty name anyway. stop wasting our money with this junk. standing ovation for a felon - how sad was that and what did that say about this country's morals. buh-bye, good luck, and stay in the annals of history as the criminal you are. none of us would get preferential treatment, who the he** are you to think that you should. And Bush responded:

"What's in it for me, Lisa?"

Sorry, Ted... too late for a pardon from Dubya. Now you will have to live the rest of you life as a felon and probably spend some time in one of those prisons you Republicans have been so fond of filling.

this mess makes me sick- he was old and arrogant when he betrayed his oath of office- these people who want him to get by with no penalties just are enablers for all of the corrupt politicians we have had to put up with. he knew he was betraying the american people, let him face the consequences- millions of our citizens are in prison for doing much less, and he never had any compassion for them

I read this yesterday on ADN and am still laughing. Poor ole' Ted.
Tell you what, murkowski, since we so into this pardoning of things lately. You know, mismanagement by corporate entities, treason, high crimes, murder... The whole, "Let's look forward, not behind," rhetoric that everyone is pushing for...
How about I get a pardon for my minor debt. How about I get my tax dollar back, to spend or invest as I see fit for my own benefit. How about, as a matter of fact, a $100k stimulus package for my household- because, I'm just not going to be able to buy another new car this year.
You bet- let's pardon poor old Ted. And with the precedent set, let's pardon the rest of the people of the United States. If it's good enough for Ted, it should be good enough for the rest of us.

To quote Senator Stevens on the floor of the Senate when discussing cutting off the funds to the Bridge to Nowhere, "NO!"

Since Russia is so close, why doesn't he just catch a ride over there from some native whale hunter?

What if Bush didn't pardon any of the crew?

Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney, etc..

He's got less than 24 hrs left, and a really big stack of papers to sign.

Sounds like another Alaskan official needs to be investigated for ethics violations.

Ted Steven's still proclaims his innocence and is appealing his conviction. If he is so confident in the appeals process why would he want a pardon. You would think he would still want to "prove his innocence" by getting his conviction overturned which would not be possible if he gets a pardon.

And I may add that Bush should not need to grant any pardons to anyone in his administration unless he feels that there is some chance that they and he may have done something illegal for which they may fear conviction.
