Cheney In Wheelchair For Obama Inauguration

WASHINGTON — Vice President Dick Cheney has arrived at the U.S. Capitol in a wheelchair for the inauguration of Barack Obama.

Cheney was wheeled out behind President George W. Bush to take his place alongside dignitaries that included former Vice Presidents Al Gore, Dan Quayle and Walter Mondale.

The White House says Cheney pulled a muscle in his back while moving boxes. He and his wife are moving into a new home outside Washington in McLean, Va. His doctor recommended that he use a wheelchair for the next couple of days.

Bullpuckeys! Anyone with heart disease (or with a loved-one with heart disease) knows heart patients are prohibited from lifting stuff. There's not a chance a guy with a ticker like his was lifting moving boxes! Something else was going on. Frankly, feet or wheels - who cares! As long as he's rolled on out of Washington.

Anyone remember the great beginning of a James Bond film where a bald, wheel-chair-riding Blofeld of SPECTRE was scooped up (wheelchair and all) by the "legs" of a helocopter flown by 007 and was unceremoniously dropped into the yawning mouth of a large industrial smoke stack? That thought crossed my mind when the Obamas were putting the Bushes on the helocopter to Andrew's Airforce Base and CNN caught Cheny wheeling past the chopper toward his limo. How does a man with an army of servants injure his back moving boxes? I could not help but think that this was indeed one last cynical calculated act to slight our new President. I would not put any level of pettiness beneath Cheney. He has not respected our Constitution nor our civil rights. Why would he be respectful of the man who will consign him to scrap heap of history? If I had lost a leg last night I would have stood for the inauguration today.
