I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Actor Val Kilmer is strongly considering a run for New Mexico governor in 2011 when Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson will be term-limited out of office.

He told The Hill at Monday's Huffington Post party at the Newseum that he has been approached to run for the highest office of the state where he owns a ranch and has family roots.

The last thing the "poor working people" (Kilmer's words) need is a bloated, dilletante governor. Especially one who would follow in "King" Bill Richardson's footsteps.

Could be cool to see.

I have no problem with celebrities moving into public office. Clint Eastwood was a mayor, Fred Grandy became a member of Congress, Ahnold is a Governor. Regan, etc. There have been sports figures and celebs running for a long time, but they still have to prove themselves to the public, no different than a lawyer, community organizer or anyone else.

If nothing else was proven yesterday, it was that every American has a chance to become a public servant. It also reminds us that public service is not only for those in public office, but something we all can be a part of.

Although it is not always spoken as it is when introducing a person in a governmental position, actions that serve the public good are always "honorable".

He could run against the terminator in 2016 for the Presidency! Keep Arnold out of the White House, look what happened to the German's when they voted in an Austrian leader.

You are aware Arnold couldn't run as he wasn't born there.

Yes, yet he is trying to change the constitution so that he can. Already some very powerful supporters have said the constitution should be changed.

Hopefully, it will be kept the way it is.

I'm interested in hearing his positions. I don't reject someone simply because they were an actor, I don't support someone for that reason either. Let him make his pitch.

"The actor who succeeded Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader could have a problem, however. He’s been a prominent support of Ralph Nader’s independent bid for the White House, and gave money to Nader, and not President Obama, in 2008."

Dealbreaker right there, not to mention, what's he ever done to indicate a talent for governance? He was good in Tombstone though. I'll give him that.
