Jacques Chirac's Dog Bites Him: Chirac Hospitalized After Mauling By "Clinically Depressed" Poodle

Former French president Jacques Chirac was rushed to hospital after being mauled by his own 'clinically depressed' pet dog.

The 76-year-old statesman was savaged by his white Maltese dog - which suffers from frenzied fits and is being treated with anti-depressants.

I'm sorry, but I laughed myself into a fit reading this one. Serves him right for being one of those obnoxious dog owners who pays for anti-depressants and therapists for their pooches. Take the thing out for a few good long walks and let it play ball and I tell you the dog will be happy as a clam. Can I have my £20,000 fee for this advice, now?

hey, I stopped a pitbull from mauling my cat. I am a middle aged woman, if I can stop a pitbull surely anyone could stop a poodle.

We put our Beegle mixed mutt on Prozac.

Not for depression. But for hyperactivity. It really helped. He became a calmer more self assured dog. Before the meds he could not calm down.He would pace around the house unable to relax. Afterwards he was still hyper but we were able to live with him.

And before,when he got excited he would pee on himself like a puppy. He stopped doing that and became more self confident.

So I am a firm advocate of medication for dogs. When appropriate of course.

My vet refused to alllow our beagle to be put on meds;she was so hyperactive, never just SAT or lay down quietly,constant movement even after 3 hour walks-must be a beagle thing.

Should have found another Vet, because it worked like a charm for us.

And the Dog, of course.

I understand it s a Beagle thing. But it could be successfully treated.

French poodles can no longer tolerate the tyranny of man--forcing them to clippings, confining collars, not to mention little outfits and matching booties. Mon Dieu!

most people in France don't subject their dogs to such humiliations ... while traveling with our two small dogs, we were laughed at ... the dogs were wearing coats ... it was cold!

Fresh air, exercise, plenty of love. It doesn't take much to keep a dog un-depressed.

It's when rich people think that pets are merely furniture they go psychotic.

Clearly, the dog's meds aren't working. I don't take depression lightly but anyone who didn't laugh at this headline might want to consider therapy, seriously. If we don't laugh at this when the world is falling apart, we might as well give up now.
