Jacques Chirac's Dog Bites Him: Chirac Hospitalized After Mauling By "Clinically Depressed" Poodle

Former French president Jacques Chirac was rushed to hospital after being mauled by his own 'clinically depressed' pet dog.

The 76-year-old statesman was savaged by his white Maltese dog - which suffers from frenzied fits and is being treated with anti-depressants.

Unless it was a standard poodle - they're pretty big. But the article said it was a Maltese - that's a drop-kick dog (to use a phrase from my father-in-law), a little guy.

Poodles can be vicious. I personally find them a bit more aggressive than many other canines and rather cold.

I hate small dogs. They seem to have some kind of genetic code that forces them to suffer from "small man syndrome". I'm sure it isn't true of ALL small dogs, but I would swear that every one of them I meet is just itching for a fight. The ones I love are the 9 inch dogs that try to attack my 95 pound German Sheppard as we take a walk. Not only do they have "small man syndrome", but they are suicidal as well.

Back in the mid '80s I watched a program on CNN in which a burglar gave advice on how to burgle-proof your house. One of the suggestions was to get a small yappy dog who liked to pee all over the house. We had a small Silkie Terrier (at runt at that) who took on an Afghan Hound at the beach one time and brought the house down.

Agreed. Small dogs can be vicious. Poodles do come in rather large versions too and they can be tough to control. (the pup in the photo looks to be a Bichon Frise).
