Michelle Obama Vogue

WWD:

Speaking of the new administration, it appears Vogue has finally landed First Lady Michelle Obama for a cover -- and it could be out in the next few weeks. Thank Obama's hairdresser for confirming the news: Frederic Fekkai stylist Johnny Wright this week inked a deal with television production company 44 Blue, which produces reality shows such as Style Network's "Split Ends." The news reports on the deal said Wright "has styled the First Lady's coif for the Democratic National Convention, her upcoming appearance on the cover of Vogue magazine and other occasions." Really? An e-mail to Wright's publicist went unreturned. A Vogue spokesman stayed on script about whether Michelle Obama will make a cover appearance, saying simply, "We're very interested in working with the First Lady."

Nevertheless, all signs point to go for Mrs. Obama's cover turn. Photographer Annie Leibovitz, who shoots for many Conde Nast titles, including Vogue and Vanity Fair, was spotted in Washington last week leaving the Hay-Adams Hotel, where the Obamas were staying before their eventual move to the White House.

wow...a black woman on the cover of Vogue! :)

American Vogue should learn a lesson from Italian Vogue.....their highest selling issue EVER was an issue featuring all black models.

vogue has already stepped up their use of Black models, in answer to mrs. obama's ascendency and perhaps to repair bad feelings created by their 2008 lebron james "king kong" cover, among other things.
the current issue features Black models in at least two editorial stories.
vogue has championed models chanel iman to a heavy degree lately as well as two more comers, including jordan and one more whose name escapes me.
vogue is responding to the zeitgeist & wintour is trying to keep her job...

Vogue must have declining sales. They made Oprah lose so much weight just to feature on the cover!!!

Michelle graced the cover of Ebony beautifully so I'm quite sure the professionals will be there to help.

I don't think they "made" Oprah lose weight. I think she just lost the weight. It was her idea.
11:48 PM on 01/24/2009
No, she said on her show that Ms. Wintour said she HAD to lose weight before shooting the cover. Oprah lost a lot of weight for that too. I'll never forget it.

I could care less if Vogue put our First Lady on the cover. Michelle Obama is above and beyond anything Vogue could ever do.

Can't WAIT to see what Annie Liebovitz will do with Michelle! Why not some Liebovitz portraits of the whole First Family while she's at it.......she's BRILLIANT!

It must be hurting Ann Coulter's cold heart to put another normal Black woman on her cover. Oprah was enough. I'll buy Vogue when they start putting more black models in their magazine.

What are you talking about? What does Ann Coulter have to do with Vogue????????

Do you have Coulter confused with the editor-in-chief Anna Wintour?

Palin has been on Vogue's cover? Are you sure about that? Right.....I must have missed that one. On the other hand, I can't wait to see Michelle's cover....it's definitely going to be a collector's item.

Michelle Obama is a 21st century woman who happens to be Black! She is an inspiration to our girls which is needed, because too many of them are putting themselves in harm's way trying to be the Hollywood size and have the hollywood look! What they need to know is that all that in hollywood is smoke and mirrors while being first lady or working for your community and going to college or teaching college are the positions that you can see women in each and every day in this country. Nothing really romantic or special about it as they get up every day for twenty, thirty, forty years while raising families and receiving no accolades is what the American woman is and always has been! Were there an Oscar for what really counts...Michelle Obama would certainly be one that I would agree deserves it!

Good for her!!! She's a real woman! Real size, real career, totally inspirational. Women, and especially black women, are ready for Michelle to take her place as a role model. Me too! Over the past week, I asked hundreds of people in DC, including a lot of women, to choose a word to represent how they feel about the inauguration of Barack Obama. I then took their portrait with the word! The 26 words included "Proud," "Hopeful," "Skeptical," and "Angry." No one chose angry! But there were definitely some "Skeptical" people out there!! And "Curious" too.

African American women and families are, above all, "Proud."

The result of my photos is this great video/photo essay. It's really inspirational. The love for the Obamas is moving.

Michelle has appeared inside Vogue already, though not on the cover. Palin on the other hand has, while governor, appeared on the Vogue cover, donning her glasses and decked out in her Sunday best executive camisole; her bo o bs hanging out for all the world to oogle, I'm sure Michelle's will be lovely, AND classy!
