Obama's First Air Force One Trip: Comments On Pilot's Looks, Orders Dinner (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/22/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:00 PM ET

In this segment from National Geographic's upcoming TV series "On Board Air Force One," President Obama boards his first flight on Air Force One--from Chicago to Washington, D.C., when he was still president-elect. He greets the pilot and says "You're the pilot of Air Force One? I've got to say, you're out of central casting. You're exactly what I want the pilot of Air Force One to look like. You look like Sam Shepard in 'The Right Stuff'."

He's then offered his first Air Force One meal. After a quick glance at the menu, Obama says he wants "to see how you guys do a burger," cooked medium-well, with cheddar cheese, dijon mustard (Grey Poupon--which he also likes in his tuna salad--will do), with lettuce and tomato. He also requests some salad or vegetables. When the waiter asks, "No fries?" He replies, "Oh, I'll still take the fries."

Medium-well, he purposely told the cook to ruin his burger!

medium is for people that don't know; well is for people that don't want to know; rare is the only way to eat a steak

okay guys here's an observation...is the current AF1 a B744/ B747 (400series) aircraft, or is it still a B742 B747 (200series),
President Obama boarded a B744...just look to the back of the Pilot/Captain you will notice the aircraft has winglets, only the the B747-400 carry winglets.
05:23 PM on 02/05/2009
you didnt look carefully. The 747 that serves as Air Force One is indeed a 747-200 aircraft. What we saw on our TV that day had no winglets, and had no glass cockpit but the older gauges.
There are plenty of videos already on youtube you can look at to verify.
They're however looking to retire it in 2012 and looking to replace it with maybe B747-800 or the A380. ( read this on wikipedia)

I don't know if they are going to change it to an A380 (since I think that they want to build American....) but the one that he was flying was NOT a B747, since there's no way that one of those can take off from Midway Airport, so he was flying on a B757, which is the largest plane that flies as AF1 that can land and take off at Midway.

Correcting myself.
Those winglets are on a B737-700 also known as C-40 Clipper.
Winglets on B744 are much shorter than those and you can only see one engine on that side.

Sorry Kevin the plane on the NGEO channel was a 757(see avionics during take off scene) and the B757 does have winglets see the following link:

Air Force One isn't just the aircraft. Air Force One is ANY aircraft that the President is actually flying on. Again...it could be a prop plane....but if the President of the United Stated is on it....it is called Air Force One! Hope this helps.

I saw this on Nat Geo earlier it was very informative. I had no idea that there were two identical air force one that flies where ever the President is going.

The 2nd plane is called the Looking Glass when he is not on it.

Does anyone know how to find out when the program will again be on NGC? If so, please post it in a 'reply' to my post and I'll check back.
Thanks.

THAT IS NOT AIR FORCE ONE! not because he was just the President Elect at the time. That is not the plane associated with the call sign AIR FORCE ONE. The plane Obama took from Chicago to Washington was an Air Force 757-200, part of the air force's Special Air Mission fleet used by top cabinet members and top government officials. GEEEZ

Actually, just for health's sake, burgers should always be properly cooked through, not medium. E Coli loves part cooked patches of meat.

OK Fudge, you go tell him that, cuz people just LOVE to hear what they should and shouldn't do. And tell him to quit smoking. And straighten his tie.

Actually, I practiced ag law, and medium is sufficient to kill all of the bacteria. He ordered medium well. I think he'll live. We can all breathe easy now.

Apparently the UK is more stringent when it comes to burger cooking....

Food Standards Agency Report, 1997 - 98

"...The Advisory Committee on Microbiological Safety of Food (ACMSF) report, commissioned by the FSA in September 2004, considered the differences between the recommended cooking conditions for burgers in the US and the more stringent requirements set by the Chief Medical Officer in 1998 in the UK."

What's with the burnt out light at the end of the video? Were they waiting for him to become president before they fixed it?
08:47 AM on 01/23/2009
I sure hope somebody posts a video of him scraping the dead skin from the bottom of his feet. """""I will joyfully watch anything about Obama.""""""" lmfao
