ABC announced Thursday it was merging its prime-time network division with the unit that develops TV programs and putting both under the control of an executive who had steered a recent ratings turnaround.

Both entities -- ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios -- will be run by Stephen McPherson, the network executive who has been in charge of programming in recent years.

Does that guy have the skill set to be involved in creative decisions?

It is one thing to look at finished products and have an idea of their potential (or lack thereof) appeal and where they might fit in a daily tv lineup, but it is quite another to deal with writers, directors, actors, etc in the evolution of a creative (I use that word guardedly when it comes to tv, but I digress) product. So there is the possibility that this is another Peter Principle decision by an American corporation, it seems to me.

I could be wrong as well, but I hope they didn't just slap this plan together.

As someone who watched and enjoyed "Eli Stone", "Men in Trees", "October Road", and "Pushing Daisies" I find that putting McPherson in charge for a "ratings turnaround" laughable. One can only hope he gets "Lost". Just show the last three "Daisies" eps. and we'll call it quits. http://www.tv.com/story/12071.html
