Move Over, Hooters: New 'Breastaurants' Are Moving In On Market

Good restaurateurs know how to sell the sizzle, and few chains have done a better job of hustling the stuff over the past 2½ decades than Hooters.

But now, inspired by the success of Hooters' wings-toting female staff, restaurants such as Twin Peaks, Bone Daddy's and other local operators with cute waitresses, cold beer and a male clientele are, well, busting out all over. And Texas, where the sole Hooters' franchisee is both the chain's sales leader and No. 1 in locations nationally, is a prime market for the "breastaurant" concept.

Wow I just don't get all the negative comments about Hooters and similar restaurants. So the waitresses GET TO dress up in cute outfits and GET TO be noticed and rewarded for their own charms and attributes rather than just their "serving abilities" many women (not all- obviously) can find this empowering. People feel different about this and that's cool, but open up your minds. I am a woman and I personally enjoy going to Hooters with my family and we like the food, but we do go there for the atmosphere. It's FUN are you familiar with the concept?

I think you've touched on the core argument against Hooters: women are "rewarded" for their attributes (read: physical attributes), and nothing else. Hooters is nothing more than a perpetuation of the old game whereby women are compensated for acting out male fantasies.

Yes, by and large, women are more attractive than men -- to other men. Not so much so to other women, tho, and that's as it should be.

Your supposition that just b/c a woman doesn't want to eat at an establishment where the waitresses are encouraged to expose as much of their physical "attributes" as possible, she is somehow being less than supportive of her sisters, is absurd on its face.

Eating at Hooters-like restaurants is analogous to eating while on the can -- no thanks.

I tend to go to a restaurant for the food and service. I typically don't want to notice the service since the entertainment I get is through the food and my guests.

I live up north and I don't recall ever seeing one of these "breastaurant" type places. Maybe it's a southern thing? It must be something that pathetic men with unattractive personalities, who don't know how to get along with women must go to try and feel better about themselves. Personally I don't like Hooters. I tried it on 4 different occasions and every time the food came to the table ice cold. I can't speak for the whole chain, but this is an issue at the one where I live, so I don't go there anymore. Just can't get into cold fries or wings.

On old boss of mine used to drag me to one in Ft. Worth when we there on business. The hooters women were cartoonishly made up and while its hard to ignore the cleavage, none of it was memorable in any positive way.

I could care less if others want to go there, but I could live a full and happy life and never see the inside of another Hooters (or knockoff) ever again.

Issues regarding sex in America are usuallly funny and strange at the same time for a foreign observer. As many Americans are raised with strong christian roots a lot of them are in for suppressed sexual behaviors. You can look but please don't touch. Hooters is as unexciting as table dancing. In America size matters, make it big, make it nationwide. Certainly people don't go there because of the food. This would be like pretending to read Playboy magazine for the interviews. It is funny big breasts are a point at the point of sale. On the other hand, Pamela Anderson, who IMO looks like a cheap hooker is some kind of role model for the sexually challenged. Anyway the American woman is taught she literally sits on something precious and is advised to use it wisely. I suggest you make prostitution legal like over here in Germany. It is not a big deal. It will save you from all this sleazy stuff and set your men free. Change you need, yes you can.

I've never been to a Hooters. Everyone tells me the food is greasy. I suspect that the men who patronize them to ogle young women are truly pathetic and probably call the 900 numbers to pay someone to talk to them. One opened close to my home and closed within a year. People aren't stupid.

Hooters has some really really good food. The Hot Wings are simply the best. It's a great place to go for a happy hour after work (men and women). Yes. It's known for it's women (which some can be hot or not). But overall, great place. You should try a place out before knocking it down.

P.S. I've heard Twin Peaks is awesome too. Me and a few buddies are planning on going there one day.

A friend's daughter has taken a job at Hooters while on track to get a professional degree. She's 21, and getting $8/hour plus tips in an area where that sort of compensation is pretty rare. Dad thinks she can handle the jerks...yahokayfine, I guess -- assuming restaurant management stands behind staff. As a parent myself, I worry for her -- but if her degree proves to be less than useful over the next few years, maybe she'll end up as hostess or even mgmt at a toney restaurant or something... who knows but she may be better off in some ways than her more privileged peers, in the current economy.
