SarahPAC: Palin Launches Political Action Committee, Prep For 2012?

First Posted: 02/27/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:00 PM ET

Sarahpac

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin launched a political action committee on Tuesday, a move meant to secure firmer roots within the Republican community but one that will undoubtedly spur talk of another run for national office.

SarahPAC will officially be based in Arlington, Virginia, (right now, the contact address is a P.O. Box) -- a rather long distance from Palin's current perch. The goal, an official with the organization says, is to bolster the campaigns of fellow Republicans through donations.

"She has gotten so many requests," said the official. "And as she looks forward to helping other candidates."

As for whether the PAC would serve as a basis for a possible presidential run, the official said: "I think that is way premature."

Palin's official gubernatorial staff cannot have involvement in the Political Action Committee, which makes the geographic difference a bit less difficult. Asked why the new operation was stationed in Virginia, the official noted that, "It is pretty common for PACs to be registered in states different than the [politician's home state]." Being near the hub of federal power, she added, would allow SarahPAC easier communication with various agencies, specifically the FEC.

According to the official website, the PAC is" "Dedicated to building America's future, supporting fresh ideas and candidates who share our vision for reform and innovation."

Wowee what a inspiring 3 page site! Wasilla is now business friendly under her administration as Mayor! Over forty Methlabs and growing! Lower property taxes is a great line sans the $22 million debt for a ice rink.... in Alaska. I expect everybody from this site has already signed up for a monthly credit card donation right? Why did the site not mention her witch doctor?

The witch doctor did not pan well with the focus groups. Outside the fundies and the Wiccas that is.

I wish Sarah would pac it off and never be heard from again.

Governor Palin is feeding off a narrow demographic whose entire ideological base has just been resoundingly repudiated by a sweeping majority. They're furious and they're frightened and they're looking for a savior. She's taking advantage of that need.

Alas, no way will she get a reality check from Alaska. Too many right wing nuts here. And when she appears in venues Outside, the audiences are specifically tailored to her, so no reality check there, either. Her advisors are kidding themselves if they think they can reinvent this woman. There is just too much out there now about her, and in the Internet culture of today, there will be no way of getting away from it. She also has two huge liabilities: She is incapable of admitting error, and she loses it over bad publicity. She does that last one on camera one time and she's done.

Lastly, the right wingers who look to her for salvation are matched in hysteria every bit as strong by left wingers who see her as the devil incarnate. Even if the Republicans did trip over their own feet and wind up nominating her in 2012, the left wing would pour money into defeating her. I will never forget the $10 million raised overnight by Obama after her speech at the convention.

One could wish she embraced more realistic goals of a local nature; that kind of energy and determination could be put to real use here at home.
10:49 PM on 01/28/2009
Great analysis. Paragraph 2 especially is spot on.
Not only is she incapable of admitting error -- and boy, does she lose it when she gets bad publicity -- she is also incapable of listening to criticism. Hence her fued with the Alaska Municipal League. No wonder why the members of the AML, among others, despise her.

"But Palin makes special note of the Republican Party on the site, saying it is at "the threshold of an historic renaissance" ...."

Well, at least she hired a writer. Ba r bie doesn't know any words with this many syllables.

Also.

A renaissance like that only makes me want to go medieval.
06:41 PM on 01/28/2009
Yes, Sarah's favorite period: medieval times. Wasn't this also when dinosaurs roamed the earth?

Is that "threshold" as in the kind with a door that you can plow through? LOL We saw how well that worked in november. Unfortunately for Sarah, there were a majority of voters with IQs over 80 who went to the polls then.

The American people seem to be doing a pretty good job of having a renaissance, WITHOUT Palin's contribution.

When she finally announces her candidacy, the following will appear on the SarahPAC site:

"If elected I realize the road might be hard, but no matter how nasty things get, I promise to remain extremely flexible. Even if I have to resort to back door politics to achieve my goals."

Anyone who guesses where I got that wins the prize!

Just saw the site. Here's the part I love:

"How will contributions be spent?

Your support of SarahPac will make it possible for Gov. Palin to continue to be a strong voice for energy independence and reform. By supporting SarahPac, you will allow Gov. Palin to help find and create solutions for America's most pressing problems; priority number one is building a strong and prosperous economy that recognizes hard work, innovation and integrity by rewarding small businesses and hard working American families. SarahPac will support local and national candidates who share Gov. Palin's ideas and goals for our country. "

Gosh, wouldn't it have been a good idea to use some of these POSITIVE points during the fall election? I'll bet McCain is steaming that she's "reaching out" to all Americans now. This fall we were too dangerous for her!!!!!!!!

How about "By supporting SarahPac, you will allow Gov. Palin to return to college for a real education with some depth; learn something about the world outside of Wasilla, Alaska; redefine her "family values" platform to include drug users, dropouts and pregnant teenagers; and rewrite Alaska's state constitution to allow unlimited harrassment of People You Just Don't Like. Additionally, you can help find solutions for America's most pressing problem: how to keep mediocre, under-educated right-wing nutjobs from obtaining political office."

Could we just donate "gently worn" clothing to her?
01:49 PM on 01/28/2009
Do you know what's interesting about that site? The logo next to the title of the site is a dark blue map of the country (sans the little Alaska and Hawaii hanging out on the side) with Alaska superimposed in light blue over the lower 48. Additionally, it's not to scale. The size is doubled and it appears that Alaska envelops the landmass of the entire midwest. I'm just amused by the imagery. It clearly sends some message, but it's obnoxious.

Actually, the superimposed Alaska IS to scale in proportion to the lower 48. Yes, it is that big.
01:59 PM on 01/28/2009
I'm not going to argue, but by my estimation, it's been exaggerated by at least 50%

It is definitely to scale, I am an Alaskan resident and have seen that many times. Whn you see Alaska next to the lower 48 as depicted on many maps it is the one that is not to scale.

Anyone who thinks that Palin in 2012 is a good thing is outright foolish...foolish to think that being ill educated, crass, unable to utter coherent statements aside from rote rehearsal will somehow guarantee an Obama second term victory. I'd vote again for Bush over this dangerous person Sarah Palin.

Look, get a grip on reality. The financial problems facing America are on the order of bankruptcy. That's right--11 trillion in dept on a 14 trillion GDP with trillions of unsecured liabilities in terms of social obligations (social security) and infrastructure problems. This is not going away in three years time over a 800 billion stimulus package. President Obama is soon to own these problems. Make no mistake it was the perfect timing of the economy tanking (in public) that pushed Obama over the top. It will also what will be doing him in 3 years hence. The alternative, unless she is stopped now, will be Sarah Palin, witch doctors and Armageddon.
05:15 PM on 01/31/2009
Hey! how do you know that witch in Kenya wasn't really causing car wrecks using black magic? (rotf) She was hunted down by Sarah's personal black witch hunter from Kiambu, Kenya named Thomas Muthee now of the the Wasilla Assembly of God Church. GLORY!
12:41 PM on 01/28/2009
The folks at TeamSarah are in a tizzy today realing from the news and trying to decide if it is a fake website or not? Because of course they don't believe MSM they are not sure if the PAC is real or a hoax. But that won't stop them from donating! They don't realize the money donated will probably be spent on travel, accomodations and clothing for SP and her staff while she pushes her own celebrity agenda.

Good times, good times.......

The funniest thing is that when you click the "donate" button there is a place to set up RECURRING donations of $250 PER MONTH to fund this idiot, who has yet to exhibit any competence at solving even a predicted weather-related crisis in her own state. And this during a time of major economic meltdown while people are losing their jobs and houses? THAT'S the depth of this group's cluelessness.

Good luck with your PAC, guys. P.S. Sarah's gonna need it also!
11:48 PM on 01/28/2009
That is hilarious! But she's just like the rest of us. She talks to parents and stuff at those weekend soccer games. She understands. Why doesn't this woman put her own money where her big, nasty mouth is and do some good for others? Oh wait, she gave those shoes to her niece to sell on ebay. Well, I guess she did then.
12:08 PM on 01/28/2009
If anyone is scared of her it's because her political views, religious views and many other views are scary. Please go back to Alaska and exorcise more witches.

I would love to see Sarah Palin try to cough up a coherent sentence during a debate with Obama. She will sound like Yoda after too many PBR's.

Go on, Sarah...run. You'll win the election for Obama.

PS: cut the "ur so skeered of her" meme. All it does is make us laugh even more.

Well said!

Palin is definitely undereducated AND overconfident. Really bad combination. Same as Joe the Plumber.

Stupid and overconfident....it's hard to believe there are that many people that would want someone like that running our country.

She not only registered a PAC, she is already registered to run for president in 2012. I don't know if anyone posted that here yet, but if you go to the FEC site and do a search, you will see it there, clear as a bell. The woman is delusional ! I get a kick out of when her supporters say people are "scared" of her. It is such a moronic conclusion-she is a clueless, incompetent, unintellectual and backwards! She is not presidential material-she cannot appeal to the entire country and she'll never make it but it will be fun to watch her debate-(real debates ya know?)
