Norm Coleman May Have Faked Website Crash

Today, Team Coleman's blogger at MDE, Ryan Flynn, posted a tidbit today:

"THOUSANDS OF HITS CRASH COLEMAN WEBSITE"

ST PAUL - Information recently added to the Coleman for Senate website, whereby people can find out which Minnesota voters the Franken campaign is trying to disenfranchise, has resulted in the website being inundated by tens of thousands of hits today - temporarily crashing the website.

They're completely lying. Here's why.

As the Coleman for Senate website is being pointed at 1.1.1.1, which goes nowhere, they have no way of tracking how many “hits” they are getting. They had to have made up the “thousands of hits” number because it is technically impossible to track traffic they aren’t receiving.

This stunt is a completely fabricated lie.

So some doorknobs just went into the admin tools and thought they could create the illusion of some earthquake of public support for his campaign by spoofing the DNS info? Even if the server was returning a kazbillion pings and got knocked down by some huge volume of traffic it wouldn't have returned an IP address foreign to its ISP registration. Its laughably obvious they hoaxed it and turned around to alert the presses afterward.
