I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Stephen Colbert snagged an interview with Paul McCartney for Wednesday night's show.

There were many highlights including Colbert playing ignorant about the Beatles, the pair screaming at each other and Colbert calling McCartney "cute."

They also sang together and Colbert declared himself the fifth Beatle.

...and McCartney holds his own in the funny department! -- which is amazing considering he is a singer song writer, not, as is the case with Colbert, an actor/ comic. Bravo ,Sir Paul! If you ever want to give up your day job...

"McCartney has always been perfect at doing the deadpan humor style- it was a perfect match with Colbert!"

---

Paul's songwriting, along with the rest of the lads, always teemed with brilliant irony in the subtlest of ways. This was part of the great genius of the Beatles! Their ability to formulate music loaded with well-developed subtext set to brilliant melody, composition, and arrangement make them the foremost innovators of popular music of approximately the past half century.

Yes, the humor and wit was always a well-crafted part of it all, even in the early songs.

"Well she was just seventeen, you know what I mean." Lennon/McCartney

Yes, on top of the great musical listening experience, The Beatles' music has always put a smile on my face. They helped me get through the misery of high school in the '60s, and have remained a constant joy "in my life."

I never miss Colbert Report, and his interview with Sir Paul is priceless. Nobody does it better! And as for Sir Paul, he has a very good sense of humor. Another great moment in the Colbert Nation!

I think the tenderest cut of the McCartney would be the McRib.

Paul McCartney is the king of "tongue and cheek," Colbert didn't even phase him for a second. A great interview.

No, Colbert more than met his match. I enjoyed how Sir Paul deadpanned perfectly through the whole thing--taking Stephen at his word that he'd never heard of the Beatles, answering that they were known for "She Loves You, Yeah,Yeah, Yeah" with the ironic delivery that said, "Sounds like we got famous for a really dumb song, doesn't it?"

Too. Funny. (I just wish there was more of Sir Paul performing. Though who can blame Colbert for bullying his way through the song with McCartney basically SUPPORTING him! lol)

This had the choppiest editing of any Colbert interview I've seen. I wonder if that was because McCartney couldn't pull off the deadpan as well as Stephen.

Anyway, I agree with everyone that this is one of the best edited-interviews I've seen on Colbert.

You should go to comedy central and watch the whole show. The author guest calls SC a work of art

I like his show, but I think he should show more respect to his guests.

How can you show respect and be grossly inappropriate at the same time?

They know what they are getting into. SC warns them ahead of time that he is going to act like a complete a$$h013 once the camera starts rolling.

I think that is his genius. He convinces you that he is simultaneously a complete a--h0l- and a smart, generous and classy guy

He's spoofing the bloviating right-wing anchortainers. (O'Reilly ring a bell?)

He's supposed to be rude.

I think you've missed the point completely.
