Bourdain Rachael Ray

New York Post:

Canadian gossip Shinan Govani, who was also keeping tabs on Anthony Bourdain, the Keith Richards of chefs. When a local came bearing Fever Grass Tea, claiming, "Whatever ails you, this will cure you," the "No Reservations" host replied, "I wake every morning angry at Rachael Ray. Can you help me?" He then took a swig.

Anthony Bourdain just can't stand that Rachel Ray makes so much more money than he could ever make. Rachel Ray speaks to a large part of our society. I am a chef and I understand that everyone can't be food snobs because they need simple and low cost food that they can make themselves, and Rachel Ray gives that to them.

Followed all the links and . . . no 'why?' Just 'angry?' Let me guess--this cheeky younger 'gal' has the nerve to draw an audience. We all know that only men deserve fawning attention and good ratings. Bourdain is a one-trick pony and he's tripping over the barrels these days.

"one-trick Pony"?...have you ever watched No Reservations. His snark is way more entertaining than watching RR inflate once a month.
But then again it's all about taste...if you like Wal-Mart and supermarket cake then Rachel's your girl.
If you enjoy meeting culture in the home and a good Pho? Then Anthony is your boy.

No, it's not that reason, it's because she's a sell out, choosing to embrace convenience over taste. He hates her becuase she represents a dumbing down of cooking. Pre-packaged, pre-cut produce is like the worst type of produce to a chef. It's like picking trash from the garbage, since the quality of the produce has significantly reduced through the processing.

It amazes me to this day how Rachael Ray has come this far. What was Oprah thinking!

Can stand both only in small doses. Anthony is too snarky, pretentious and has too much attitude.
Rachel is too sugary bubbly and fawning. The both know the value of this 'media fight' and watch for em to guest on each other's shows.

Tony is hardly "pretentious". He's too full of self-deprication and self-loathing to be. You would know that if you would watch more than one episode of 'No Reservations'.

Well, I was in Tony's class at Vassar and I remember him being pretentious even then. He always carried a machete in his long black boots....

I enjoy his show. I enjoy travelling and have tried some of these edibles! I have a bit of a c ast iron stomach. I draw the line with insects and bugs and a few other foods considered "delicacies. Rachel Ray is cream puff in comparison

If you think he's tough on Rachel Ray you should hear what he says about Sandra Lee.

He's not hard enough. She doesn't know how to cook. Plain and simple. Sandra Lee mixes stuff even college students would have a hard time eating.

A suggestion: Could HP give the source of each blog HP uses at the end of a teaser paragraph as the DAILY BEAST & other sites do? It is annoying to blunder into something from the NYT, NYPOST or similar sources as I use HP. While some media is popular, much of it is unreliable. Buzz is noted for that.

Strange thread.

Bourdain is not famous for his cooking.

He didn't get on the food network for his cooking skills.

It's his WRITING! He happens to be the funniest American writer out there now.

He's in the Mark Twain realm. His books are not cookbooks but are about his career in the food industry. Kitchen Confidential is one of the funniest books I have ever read about anything.
I mean wet-your-pants funny! That's why he is famous.

Cobra hearts and monkey brains, stir-fried with hooch on the side. Welcome to his world.

He doesn't cook that, he eats that if the locals eat that. In other words, eat what the local eats since they're eating it for a reason.

Just think what people might think about cheese, and it fits your logic. Cheese is essentially liquid milk, that's been spoiled, to produced chunks of curds. These milk chunks are then compressed together, and allowed to dry and partly rot. After rotting, for some cheese, moles are introduced.

Lets look at steak. The process of dry aging steak is essentially taking a piece of meat, hanging it, and waiting for it to rot, so the rotting contents of the beef will tenderize the inside.

What we consider as great food might be seen as disgusting for foreigners who don't do that themselves. I love cheese, and I love steak, but seriously if you think how their made, it's as bad as cobra hearts and monkey brains.

American mediocrity!!

Rachel gets a bad wrap because she's so darn perky. I've tried some of her recipes and they actually elevate the level most household cooks perform at. She uses mostly fresh ingredients and herbs and makes practical meals anyone can prepare. I don't understand why it is necessary to look down on people just because they don't have sophisticated palates. Bourdain is a little self obsessed. Thomas Keller is the true god of American cuisine.
