"The View" Producer "Obsessed" With Heidi And Spencer

Executive producer of "The View" Bill Geddie is "obsessed" with MTV reality couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.

In Monday's LA Times, in an article about the daytime chatfest coming to the Disney lot in Burbank for a week, Geddie talked about the show's guest bookings:

"I had a publicist come up to me the other day and say, 'You know, I have all these clients, all these stars I can't get on your show. What is going on?' And I said, 'I wouldn't have predicted a year ago that I would clear the boards to put Condoleezza Rice on.' It just wouldn't have occurred to me. But people want to see her."

So is "The View" getting all wonky on us? Well, not exactly. Also on the Burbank guest list are featherweight reality stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.

"This is my personal obsession," Geddie said. "I can't get enough Heidi and Spencer. I must tell you, the women are not exactly in my court on this. I hear: 'Why are you booking them again?' And I say, 'There's something about them that sort of encapsulates the age we live in.' "

The week out west begins March 9.

I've wondered about Geddie for a long time now. He is the only reason I can think of for keeping that windbag Elizabeth on the show. He loves her, because they are both Republicans. From everything thing that I've read about EH, not very many people can stand her, and yet she is still there. She is just revolting, and Geddie needs therapy.

So very true! Geddie and his "personal" obsession should stay in the closet!! This couple is a perfect example of tabloid crap. The "age" we live in? Gee, most Americans are losing their jobs, their savings, their homes - oh, and add to the list no health insurance or benefits. Geddie and his pal Rush, and these two fools don't have a "republican" clue as to what is really going on around them in this country!

This the reason that they will not go away. I watch The Hills, but I don't think those (or any of The Hills stars) would be on mainstreams shows like this. They have too big of an ego and it needs to be popped sooner or later, hopefully sooner.

I am a Hills fan, but that is too much. It is on basic cable for a reason.

she gets more than prepped, Rosie said that all the women wear ear pieces so producers off stage can tell them things during the show. Bill talks directly to EH with the dribble she spews. Plus, EH says that she watches Sean Hannity on Fox every night, and her rhetoric is obviously exactly what he has said on his show the night before. So, between those two things, there isn't much free thought on her part...

I couldn't believe today when she was putting down the stimulus package!! She has no idea what she is talking about... plus she was bashing "the media" for "unfair" treatment of her idol, Sarah Palin...(EH wishes she could be as smart and quick thinking as SP)!!! And, she was saying that Katie Courics interview was somehow unfair...though I don't know how anyone can make that case...

I wondered who prepped her because you can tell she's prepped. I can't believe he does that. I can't believe Babs stands for it as she really tries to remain neutral professionally.
Who preps the other ladies? Such unfairness will doom the environment.

That is absolute madness. These two people are FRAUDS. They probably have a publicist that tells them something like "Ok Spencey baby you gotta mess up this relationship. It's gonna spike ratings and get the gossip wheel churning. You and Heather will get on the cover of People again. Then after a few weeks, Heather, i want you to take back Spencer, forgive him and do a little high-profile shopping together-just so you get some paparazzi pics."

How, exactly, do they encapsulate this age. How do they represent America? In the sense that America loves gossip? Yeah, but we always have, just do a little historical research.

The show is about as real as many other of the reality shows out there. While some take a more discrete approach to create drama (just about guarneteeing the result they want during the selection process (hmm, lets get good looking, hypersexual applicants who can't hold their booze and put them in an apartment//house with a ton of booze and parties to boot) I think the Hills might just tell them what to do or say outright before and they reshoot if they don't get it right.

While they might loons, those loons are laughing all the way to the bank because people "in the age we live in" will line up at a bar or event that they are appearing at.

I sort of see "The View" as sort of going through the same thing "The Daily Show" was going through a decade ago. Shifting from entertainment to an entertaining political show.

I'm not a huge View-fan, but the process is interesting.
