Conservative Group Tries To Make Obama's Aunt An Immigration Issue

ABC News' Jason Ryan reports that officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement has no comment on the arrest request filed by the conservative group ALIPAC (Americans for Legal Immigration) for President Obama to honor his proclamations about upholding the rule of law deporting his Aunt Zeituni Onyango.

"Auntie Zeituni," as President Obama refers to her in his book Dreams From My Father, is the half sister of Barack Obama Sr., the President's late father. Last Fall, she was discovered by media outlets to be living in public housing in Boston, her 2000 request for asylum having been denied by immigration officials in 2004. She has since moved to Cleveland and renewed her request for asylum.

Ok, I'll stop crying and I'm so sorry that I contributed in ruining Palins life (On a side note all the erroneous information about her family came from a single blog, The Daily Kos the first week she was chosen as a running mate and was quickly debunked. Every opportunity a GOP shill was on tv, they kept referencing The Daily Kos as the "lying MSM). I need to realize also it's a fact that our country has been moving forward nicely and is in better shape under Bush's stewardship these last 8 years. We should be happy that only 4235 Americans have died in Iraq. Heck it could have been 10,000 or hundreds of thousands so we should consider ourselves fortunate. Katrina was just some water flooding the streets a little in the French Quarter in New Orleans. And of course Bush also saved The US by taking GDP surplus he inherited into the largest deficit in history so we can show other countries that we're prepared to go it alone regardless how it affects their economies.

We all also should agree that our relationships with other countries is stronger than ever, provided you don't take into account how vocal and demonstrative other countries have been chastizing US policy.

War crimes are a much bigger issue than immigration. If we're going to ignore Bush/Cheney's torture machine we might as well let alone someone who is seeking asylum. Also, it's not like his aunt was living in hiding and trying to skirt the law. She applied for asylum, which means she is ATTEMPTING to do the legal (ie the right) thing. ALIPAC should go pick on someone who is dodging the law, not someone who is obeying it and trying to work with the authorities. To me this is proof that ALIPAC is not really even about the immigration issue, they must have just set up their PAC as an arm of propaganda and an outlet for those racists who are so pervasive in the GOP. This isn't about "legal" immigration. If Obama's aunt was white and seeking asylum from, say, Russia, she'd be let in with no questions asked, her asylum request would be rubber-stamped and she would probably be already working on citizenship documents. This is a blatant attempt to smear Obama with the brush of illegality, knowing fully well that the cards are stacked against Obama's aunt because of her color and country of origin. Pretty much what I'd expect from some outdated, useless conservatives.

Some of you shoud understand something about immigration issues. When non-criminal immigration cases like resident visas and asylum cases are denied, the people are usually told they have a certain time to leave the country or appeal the verdict. Legal appeals with attorneys and courts cost money, a commodity which many immigrants don't have. So they wind up working and saving their money to fight another day...or they give up trying and become illegal. If they are law-abiding people up to that point, they're usually not arrested or forcefully deported after their immigration denials. Only in extreme cases are denied immigrants arrested and deported on the spot, usually because they are already convicted felons or have other social, legal or health issues which make them unfit for permanent residency.

As if rule of law ever mattered to these conservatives. All they care about is money and power. According to their theory of power, rules are for the little people. So I guess it's okay by them if Bush/Dick torture people or spy on innocent people etc, just so long as the little people follow the rules that were never intended for the masters of the universe.

I was under the impression that everyone was equal before the law. If Pres Obama makes an exception for his family wouldn't that mean that he believes he is above the law? If he grants his Aunt amnesty from this law why should we believe that she will be bound by any of our laws?

How many family members will he allow to stay/come here? If other members of his extended family manage to come into the US illegally should they likewise be given amnesty? Can I have my family members come to America and flaunt US law? Why not?

If thumpers could read they would know where the garden of Eden is. There is a map, painted with words, right there in front of their noses in that bible they claim to know and love. They don't actually read it, else they wouldn't think the location of the garden of Eden is all that big of a mystery. I've known where it was for some 10 years or so. But I'm not telling. That would be too easy. I hope I've piqued some curiosity. It would be a better world if more people actually read the bible so they would know the places where god advocated genocide, and where he commanded his followers to wipe blood all over themselves in some gruesome, gory ceremonies; and how time and again he favors whoever is doing something wrong and punishes whoever is doing something right. God is purely evil, and I want people to find that out for themselves. So, read the bible, go looking for the garden of Eden (which is surely there, if you are literate enough to find it), and meanwhile learn about what an abusive "father" that god really is.
