Tom Daschle, Obama's nominee for Health and Human Services Secretary, has withdrawn from contention after failing to pay taxes on a car service. The announcement came hours after Nancy Killefer withdrew as nominee for Chief Performance Officer for similar reasons. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, however, faced similar problems and insisted that he was still the right man for the job. In the end, despite some vocal opposition and intense media scrutiny, Geithner was confirmed. Should Daschle have followed his example, or was he right to withdraw?

During the time in question, TD paid 1.5 million in taxes. Repubs would be embarrassed to tears if they had paid that kind of money. TD also gave money every month to a program for foster children. What kind of an a $ $ h o l e would do that sort of thing? Get a perspective people or you can try trusting Palin in four more years. We are just giving the repubs a way to b e a t up on us as usual. Do you want another outcome like Carter had?

Want to learn who the real tax cheats are and how they have been supported by the government?

Read this book: The Cheating of America: "How Tax Avoidance & Evasion by the Super Rich Are Costing Billions," by Charles Lewis. A v a i l a b l e at A m a z o n, use d copies for two eighty four and up.

TD doesn't begin to fall into this category.

Geithner voluntarily revealed his tax problems to his vetters before the nomination. Daschle didn't.

And in any event, the #1 mark against Daschle was his ties to the health-care lobby.

IMHO, good riddance.
