I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Hilary Duff has hit out at Faye Dunaway's looks in an interview with E! News. The fracas began when a remake of "Bonnie and Clyde" was announced, starring Duff, 21.

Dunaway, 68, who starred with Warren Beatty in the 1967 original, was quoted in the Chicago Sun-Times January 28th as having said, "Couldn't they at least cast a real actress?"

Now Duff, asked by E! about Dunaway's supposed comments, has responded by insulting her appearance.

"I think that my fans that are going to go see the movie don't even know who she is, so you know, uh, I think it was a little unnecessary but I might be mad if I looked like that now too."

Oh it's on. Why can't they leave the classics alone. What's next a remake of Gone with the Wind? Staring Hillary Duff

Or Jude Law?

I agree with Ms. Dunaway....Hillary Duff is no actress! Maybe if Charlene Theron, Reese Witherspoon or Kate Winslett had been chosen to reprise the role, she wouldn't care, but HILLARY DUFF!

Uhh, wouldn't Charlize Theron be great, but she too is my bit old for the role.

Why all the remakes upon remakes of older films? Updating is one thing, but how does someone update "Bonnie and Clyde," which is generally biographical and set in a specific time period? I'm sure producers want to make a lot of money so they're playing it safe with a well-tested script, but come on -- Hillary Duff as a tough, coarse, gun-toting, hard-drinking "Bonnie?" Faye Dunaway had the chops to pull it off. I wish Ms. Duff well because she is a good actress. However, look at the classic "Miracle on 34th Street" with Edmund Gwynn and Maureen O'Hara, then look at the one with David Hartman. No comparison; the latter one stinked in large part due to Hartman, a well-liked-at-the-time actor. As to the comments between Dunaway and Duff, both seem rather childish, but then a little controversy probably won't hurt the film.

Typical Hollywood cheaponomics, with a steaming load of CYA tossed in for good measure.

If you spend $50mil making a completely original movie and it bombs, guess who gets fired? But if you spend $150mil on a remake and it bombs, you can always argue "Hey, the original was a hit? Whoda thunk it?" and you get to keep your job.

I'd feel the same way, but her venting to the media seems odd. Why didn't she use whatever influence she has left in Hollywood to get Duff off the project and get a real actress in?

I plan to wait until I see Duff's performance to comment on the accuracy of Dunaway's remark that Duff is not "a real actress" but I will say that Faye Dunaway demonstrated less than the expected degree of class one is expected to have cultivated by age 68, and that if some wrinkled old has-been talks that kind of trash about me I reply at least as sarcastically as Hillary Duff did.

Didn't your mother ever tell you, that two wrongs don't make a right?

To complain about Faye Dunaway's classlessness, while at the same time, piling on her, is the very definition of hypocrisy.

It would be nice if there were some big mommy out there who could say she didn't care who started it and that both needed to go to the corner. But there isn't.

So which one made the first uncharitable remark?

Faye Dunaway has more talent in her baby toenail than Duff has in her universe. Casting this little brat starlet to play Bonnie is the equivalent of a Godfather remake w/Pauly Shor as Michael to Carrot Tops Don Corleone.

hilarious that the duffster picks on dunaway's looks... dunaway who looks great for knocking on 70's door. especially considering that if hillary duff suddenly got pretty and stopped looking like a horse she would fairly closely resemble a young faye dunaway (probably the only reason she was suggested for this gig).

by the way, when are these eff ups in hollyweird gonna start making some NEW movies?!

Memo to Ms. Duff:

In 45 years, not only will you wish you looked as good as Ms. Dunaway at 68, but you'll still be a sh**ty actress.

The Duff hating is a little weird in the narrow context of the described situation. When I read the headline, I was also prepared to take sides with Dunaway. But if Dunaway really did lob the first shot, then she deserves Duff's smack. After all, someone who made 'Mommie Dearest" shouldn't be sniping about "real" acting.

Faye Dunaway came in second in the New York Film Critics voting for best Actress for Mommie Dearest in 1981 losing by only two votes. And legendary film critic Pauline Kael raved about Faye's acting in the same film. So you know as much about real acting as Hilary Duff antaeus

Well, I'm chagrined. Far be it from me to use this forum to challenge a "legendary film critic." I should have known better.

There's a piece in the "Living" section on easing off coffee. Might be worthwhile.

I like Dunaway's films very much. I grew up with them. For years she was a neighbor.

But someone of her stature and talent should, in your words, "shut it" before letting loose out of needless insecurity. I couldn't pick Duff out of a police lineup . . . before, that is, an Oscar-winning older actress called her a no talent. Lesson?

Face it Duffy! Read, if you can, how many replies are in favor for Faye in talent, looks (even now), brains and knowledge of cinematography. I'm sure your fans that you mention are just as immature and ignorant due to their Lizzy tween years which is understandable, but if you plan on longevity in a movie career it would be wise for you to learn something about the industry and develop a better personality, definitely on, and off camera. As a movie buff (non-tween), I was shocked to hear that Hollyweird is even considering trying to out do such a brilliant classic. They must be running out of worthwhile scripts. Nonetheless, casting you as "Bonnie"?? No way!! Faye takes the cake! I also don't think you'll be blessed at looking as great as Faye (since you don't now) even if you live that long and with surgery, because you don't have a classic, timeless look now. Stick w/the little girl Lizzy roles until you grow up and become a woman, IF you ever become a lady.

SInce Duff decided to shy away from the issue of talent and focus instead on looks, it must be said that her looks are pathetically average. Were it not for her fame, she would not even be noticed when walking into a club full of college hotties.
