I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Eric H. Holder was sworn-in Tuesday as the 82nd Attorney General of the United States. He is the first African-American to lead the Justice Department, and surely the first A.G. to be treated as a bona fide rock star.

When Holder arrived at the department for the ceremony, a throng of Justice Department employees greeted him with thunderous applause, many snapping away with cell phone cameras to capture the moment. He sprinted up five flights of stairs where an even larger crowd erupted into cheers when Holder said, "it is so good to be home." Holder served as Acting Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General and United States Attorney in the Clinton administration.

How funny it works out. A few weeks ago Holder's Congressional approval was 'in doubt' whereas Daschle's was 'all but certain'. Anyway go get 'em Holder!! Woo Hoo!!

One of Holder's first priorities should begin with a review of the qualifications of all those hired since 2000. Identify those who were selected based primarily on their political affiliations and subject them to a rigorous performance evaluation. The graduates of Regents and other talibangelical enclaves who haven't already sought sanctuary elsewhere should be made to defend their every professional decision.

Make it clear that DOJ promotes and enforces the rule of law and upholds the constitution above all else.

Will the MSM ever give up on the "First Black" SPIN they try to look relevant with??? I don't care what color his skin is, or what Ethnic Group he is part of........ Like the President, I did not Vote on his skin color... WOW! Is it possible many of us are simply happy to get a PERSON of either SEX that can competently..... DO THE JOB... (For a CHANGE.... pun intended)

Do WE have to paint on his door, First Black U S Attorney General of the United States? Or add the extra ink to the Attorney General/ DOJ Letterhead???

He just seems like a known to the DOJ Professional's, as a PERSON very capable of doing the Job and Restoring Confidence and Law and Order... Sounds like a winner to me.....

I am so happy we have a chance at changing the tune at Justice. I give the new AG a day or so to get settled in. It is now one full day however and no inditment of any neocon war criminal. Twenty four hours and no perp walk. I am counting the days.

It's nice to know that someone competent will be running what is probably the most important agency in the government.

One would expect that long time Justice Department employees were thrilled they would no longer be a political arm of either party. A very nice change indeed. While I can't say the prior Democratic AG's were clean of pressure from their party's president, it does appear that Republican administrations view the DOJ differently. I never thought after living through the Nixon years I'd ever find a more corrupt DOJ, turns out they were bush league compared to the Gonzo reign.

Say what you will about Clinton, Janet Reno had no problem appointing Special Counsels to investigate allegations of wrong doing of the man who appointed her.

It will be interesting if the Obama administration stays transparent as Obama claims it will. And should there be allegations, that Holder will be independent enough to look out for the rule of law not the rule of the man who appointed him. I beleive he will. I beleive DOJ employees beleive that as well, contributing to his standing ovation.

Congratulations, we are on the right track now as we take back the Dept of Justice and restore the beauty and meaning of our Constitution and the laws that make this the greatest country on earth. Good luck Eric Holder. Good to see a black man as Attorney General.

Just imagine... a whole room full of lawyers flashing back to those Professional Ethics and Cobstitutional Law courses in law school and breaking out in smiles of recognition.

Will there be rehab counseling for all the Regent graduates? Or, maybe, simply a product recall from Pat Robertson?

Maybe now police departments across America will realize that there are consequences to trampling on citizens' rights and the unparalleled level of police shootings of unarmed and non-threatening suspects will subside.

I hope you are correct, Paul, but I believe the countless assaults on innocent victims by officials in uniform that occur almost daily throughout this country are old habits that are indeed difficult to break. The bottom line is that Holder must act swiftly, in accordance with the law, to resolve, and prosecute, cases involving police brutality against minority citizens, who, over the last four centuries, have been the main targets of uniformed lawbreakers. In this new era of apparent "real justice" in the Justice Department, I expect some police officers to defer to the rule of law, but because old habits generated by feelings of hatred and superiority tend to die hard, many others will continue violating the law they promised to uphold. Let's keep in mind that there are many more criminals at large than in jail, and those that are free obtain paychecks and promotions despite their criminal activity. These incentives (paychecks and promotions) to engage in crimes like police brutality lead me to believe that illegal, superfluous beatings and killings executed by armed police against unarmed citizens are permanent aspects of America's perverted social structure. To that end, Holder, of course, has his work cut out for him.
