Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has undergone surgery for pancreatic cancer, apparently at an early stage.

The court said the 75-year-old Ginsburg had the surgery Thursday at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She will remain in the hospital for seven to 10 days, said her surgeon. Dr. Murray Brennan. This was according to a release issued by the court.

Ginsburg, a justice since 1993, had colon cancer earlier in her tenure.

The cancer was discovered during a routine, annual exam late last month at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.

The court said a CAT scan revealed a tumor measuring about 1 centimeter across the center of the pancreas.

Oh, so much BETTER TO HAVE BEEN Thomas, Roberts, Scalia, or the other one with an Italian surname; they (the latter) will be around for decades defending the onset of plutocracy and quasi-feudalism in the U.S.!

You're disgusting. You wish cancer on those guys just because you disagree with their beliefs. Would you be ok with right-wingers wishing this on Justice Ginsburg?

God bless and good luck, Justice Ginsburg.

I wish her good health, and whatever it takes for her to have a speedy recovery or remission.

And damn,.. am I glad that Obama gets a chance to pick her replacement if she choses this as her time to retire.

I read her opinions...Justice Ginsburg is a true American heroine and has demanded equality for women everytime the issue came up and, when equality and justice was deneid to women by the majority, she let them know about it in her dissent. I bet she hung on past the Bush years knowing how critical her replacement would be for the future of all women.

I salute you Justice Ginsburg. My you enjoy some great days in the sun.

I certainly wish her the best. However, in case she is unable to continue her duties we should be thankful that Obama's the president and not Bush. Yikes!

If one is going to have pancreatic cancer, a 1 cm tumor at the tip is the place to have it and have it found early, as it has with the Justice. If she selects surgery, it would probably be some form of a Whipple procedure, and it is a grueling, serious surgery, especially for someone of her age. The follow-up chemo and radiation is horrible as well.

My wishes and prayers go out to the Justice and her family, and I truly wish her a rapid recovery and success in her treatment. She will, however, at the best, have a survival of no more than five years, with the best possible care and if the type of cancer is the least aggressive, etc.

Thank God that Obama has become President and we won't have the Republicans making the selection of the Justice to replace her.

As most of you know I am a republican and disagree with her views at many turns. However, I want to let her and her family and friends know that all of our prayers are them at this time.
