Christian Bale Apologizes For "Inexcusable" Rant

LOS ANGELES — Christian Bale says he acted like a "punk" and that his profane tongue-lashing on the set of "Terminator Salvation" was inexcusable.

In Friday remarks on a Los Angeles morning radio show, Bale said he never intended to get physical with cinematographer Shane Hurlbut. He also said he was likely channeling too much of his character, John Conner.

Bale also told the "Kevin and Bean" show on KROQ 106.7 that he and Hurlbut reconciled and worked together for another month following the tirade.

The outburst, which occurred last year on the set in New Mexico, was posted this week on the celebrity gossip site TMZ. It has become an Internet sensation, inspiring a music remix, spoofs, and punch lines for the "Kevin and Bean" show.

I have a lot of respect for Bale as an actor (look at what he did in the Machinist), but I did lose a little respect for him after hearing that rant...

In the rant he says they guy had done it before. You don't ruin the shots on a movie - period. Everyone waits HOURS until the shot is ready. The guy was unprofessional and deserved the rant.

I'm sad bale was forced to apologize.

I wonder how many of us would be keeping our jobs if we did anything remotely like that at our jobs? Complete double standard in my opinion, but why this is so apparantly forgiveable is because he's a celebrity that will generate lots of $$$. I think the accusation of his mother and sister that he assualted them after listening to this rant makes me believe they were telling the truth. It's probably not going to be the first or last we hear he acted like a jerk.

I'm not that big a fan of Bale or actors in general, but the whole story was pretty stupid and tabloid-like.

Bale inadvertently walked into a PR fire -- star and director tirades are common on sets -- lampooned all the time on tv and in films because they are so common -- but when the economy is so shaky and depressing -- the idea of some rich movie star piddling on the common man (as played by the DP, who probably is pretty well off himself) - Bale found himself in a terrible pr mess -- tough, do it yourself, dirt poor, regular joe kid who got lucky when picked by Spielberg to be the star of his movie transformed years later into a rich, over indulged prima donna with a nasty tongue.. that must have been some cold water poured on his head.

When I first heard his rant a couple days ago, I didn't think much of it. Most people have moments like this at some point. It sucks, but it happens. He just had the misfortune of being recorded. This happened last year and he already apologized to the person he yelled at and continued working with him, why should he be required to apologize to a bunch of morons on the internet too?
