Michelle is perfect.

But I wish she were a vegetarian. There are so many reasons even beyond health and cruelty...

No one commented but I enjoy how she feels comfortable enough not to always wear full on make-up in public. I think it says alot. And Five Guys is GOOOD -- there's one near me in Largo, Maryland. YUM!

I'm guessing that's a file photo HuffPo posted as I don't see what the fork would have been with a hamburger, fries and a coke.

I use a fork too..not on the skinny McDonald's or Burger King fries but the big Ore-ida style crinkle cut fries. I always use a fork on the big fries.

meaning what, exactly? I can't think of any other occupant of the White House who said "FU, America!" on a more regular basis than the previous occupants and their gang of criminals.

Hey folks, one political side issue of the First Lady going out for hamburgers or the Obamas together on Friday date nights is to encourage ordinary citizens to do the same. In spite of tough economic times, the Obamas are likely broadcasting that citizens should try to continue going out to concerts or public events, treating ourselves to lunch or dinner in restaurants with our families, buying birthday, anniversary and others gifts for our friends and loved ones, etc. These acts actually do help stimulate local economies and keep local businesses, especially small businesses, in better financial shape to stay in business and keep their workers employed.

I know there are a few pessimist and tr011s in this thread who're mocking the First Lady's looks or for being in an unrehearsed photo shoot while eating a burger. But perhaps we should take away the bigger portrayed picture here. Perhaps we should all go out for a burger occasionally...and try to purchase other things while we're out there. I may be stretching this a bit, but it does makes common sense...at least to me.

It's my understanding that the Bushes wanted nothing to do with Washington DC and wouldn't associate with anybody. The Obamas, on the other hand, are urban people and love city life, or at least are used to it. That restaurant Mrs. Obama stopped at will probably make money selling turns sitting in the same chair she did! She can stimulate the economy all by herself! LOL

Perhaps you liked the Andy Card "jacketless in the Oval Office" better since it was so much more appropriate ifor addressing the real problems our country faces.

it comes from a lack of protein. If they'd just eat a burger every once in a while, they'd be a lot cooler.

Depends on how you make them. I make my own italian sodas with grape juice and fizzy water - not that bad. I'd prefer that to the high fructose variety McDonald's sells, but it's all sugar, and I wouldn't begrudge anyone their right to drink it.

I don't believe it's right to try to make these people fit an ideal. They've been hired to run the country, not be your example of what to eat and wear, and whether or not to smoke and drink.

A tad off topic folks, but another demonstration of personal warmth and humbleness of the Obamas. Anyone see the news video of President Obama getting onto "Marine One" the other day? As PO walked towards the helicopter waving and smiling at onlookers and the press, a young enlisted Honor Guard Marine (either a Pfc or Lance Corporal) in full dress was standing at attention at the helicopter stair. The Marine snapped and held a very crisp salute as PO approached. PO saluted and then walked up to the Marine and touched his left arm. PO extended his hand to shake the young Marine's hand while mouthing some words. The young Marine, initially surprised, broke into a very broad grin, dropped his salute, shook PO's hand and mouthed a few words back. Afterward, PO released his hand, the young Marine snapped back to attention and continued rendering his salute as PO climbed the stairway. It was a tender moment and a day this young Marine likely won't forget.

I don't recall Bush directly addressing or touching a member of his honor guard. Yes, Bush would salute or salute and slightly nod towards them occasionally. But I never saw him address or interact with honor guards personally like this.

Although it might not be the perfect military protocol in such a personal way, I truly hope he keeps doing this when the occasion arises. It shows how personable the man is and that he does care about our military service members.

I bet you the conservatives will accuse PO of denigrating the office. As they did with the "jacket-less" Obama in the Oval office.

Yep Luke, they'll certainly try. The ReTHUGs are desperate and still can't stomach a Black man sitting in the people's Oval Office and they'll try to marginalize and denigrate him as much as possible. But our President is a tough urban guy and he'll continue to weather the political storm with civility, a strong sense of self esteem, humor and personal dignity.

CeCe, being retired military myself, it made me tear up too knowing that PO and the First Lady personally care about our men and women in uniform and their families. This personal touch and concern will certainly serve pause and concern when our President is ever required to risk their lives to protect us, but certainly not squander their lives needlessly on fo ol's errands and "shoot-from-the-hip" foreign diplomacy.

He also managed to cross the lawn without doing any smirks or weird little waves, too. He walked like a man who had somewhere important to go. What a concept.

So true. President Obama has a stride of inner confidence and self assurance about himself as he moves about and he seems very comfortable in his own skin. His gait is not one of arrogant privileged strutting as with Bush, but one of calm, self-assured and cool collectiveness. When I see him walking calmly and assuredly, it seems he's broadcasting in body language to us all, "don't worry so much my fellow Americans, I got this!" Watching him stay focused and relaxed does comfort may of us ordinary citizens out here to do the same, even during these tough uncertain economic and foreign policy times.

Bush apparently never acknowledged his so-called "underlings". Maybe the way he was raised he was taught not to fraternize with staff, who knows, but they had on NPR an interview with the lady, oh, she helps organize the new President's get-togethers and whatnot, and she got emotional talking about how grateful the White House staff was at having people there that acknowledge them. So I'm not surprised at HerbTee's story about the Marine. Bush apparently only talked to people he considered "important", whereas President Obama considers EVERYBODY important!

There will be many tears the day he has to leave office....

The Obama are city people... they lived, worked and enjoy the feel of a city.... think back, when was the last time a President came from a LARGE CITY? Now, this might be a major headache for the Secret Service, but it is great news from DC..... most previous Presidents came from small towns or suburbia..... NOT THE HEART OF A LARGE URBAN AREA... there is a feel to every big city, a heart, a rhythm, an excitement....

I love that Michelle is GOING out into DC... I love it that the Obama's are having date night and going out into the city.... Our past Presidents have been cocooned in the White House, Camp David or some fancy estates miles from any of us - think back to Truman --in a gentler age, he would purposely loose his Secret Service Agents just so that he could take a walk around town..... yes, there is always a risk from some crazy - but it is nice that our President and First Lady ACTUALLY sit, stand, walk in places where we sit, stand, and walk....

Hear, hear Christy! The Obamas are real urban down-to-earth folks, not high-minded phonies like so many before them. The Obamas are a couple that average Americans could either have a glass of vintage wine, champagne or a beer with and feel at ease with them in either social environment. The Obamas are the real deal!

Interesting observation. There's much to enjoy about Washington; it's a city with its own multi-culture, aside from being our nation's beautiful capital. I used to live right off Wisconsin (in the District, not MD) and I loved it.
