WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama plans to make his first trip to the presidential retreat at Camp David this weekend.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says Obama and his family will spend Saturday night in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains. It will be Obama's first trip to the country estate as president.

Gibbs says the Obamas will leave Saturday and return on Sunday. Gibbs joked that the president was "a bit of a restless soul" who likes walking.

Temperatures in the Washington area this weekend are expected to be in the mid-50s.

President George W. Bush spent many weekends at Camp David with aides and advisers. He spent his final weekend as president there.

President Obama is our president but he's also a husband and a father. I don't see anything wrong with him taking his family to camp david for one day. And I'm pretty sure he's working day and night. It doesn't look like he's been spending time with his family since he's been president. His daughters are young and they need some time with their father away from his crew (whitehouse staff) I hope we can all give our president a break. We don't have to knit pick everything he does. Me personally I've never seen a president as much as I've been seeing President Obama. He's not closed up in the whitehouse he's actually talking to us.

President Obama isn't the reason for the country's unemployment! You can thank George Bush for what's going on! The president inherited a mess, but the country expects him to get us out of this mess in three weeks! Where was your outrage at George Bush?

Funny how we forget Bush started out his presidency by taking a month of vacation.

You can thank Bush for that and his war and idea of patroling the world.

Thank the republicans for that and by the way don't forget when you call them tell them you enjoy that you and your family and friends are losing their homes and can't feed your children because the GOP wants tax breaks for their rich friends.

I am so glad he has a restless soul, most people who have brought about great things for humanity have restless souls. The moment my soul stops searching for a better way of living I might as well hang it up. As far as Camp David for one night...jeez big deal.

Restlessness, is the medium needed to 'get something right'. Faulting one for being restless is a shame. Rather than promoting unity and lightheartedness while commenting is exactly what the rnc wants. Tax cuts for small business work. But small-business will not provide the 'jolt' needed, at this time. Addressing a combination of both sustainable economies and creativity will. If a vehicle needs maintenance, so does the idea of unity.

I would dare to venture that plenty of work will be done at Camp David as well, unless there's a "don't bring work to Camp David" rule I don't know about...

It's the Bush rule not to work at all unless it's something that would destroy the country.
Obama has a fine work ethic.

Jimmy Carter wrote the Camp David Accords there. It was a huge undertaking on his part. What ever else one might think of him, it was one of his triumphs.

No matter how rich or poor we are, we are all on this earth for a finite time. Those with a conscience and a sense of responsibility, carry the heaviest weight. They try to honor the sacrifices those before them made and strive to protect the future for those who follow. The weight they carry is far heavier than those to rape and pillage with little regard for the generational devastation it causes to mankind or the planet. At the end of the day, we are all measured by the good that we try to do during our short life and in what condition we leave our place for those who will replace us.

I wish there were more in Washington who felt this restlessness and since of responsibility to his and her country and man kind.

It is a good thing that he knows when it is time to take a rest. The alternative would be to crack up under the pressure.

Let me help - ...if I can. If people start off on the premise that President Barack Obama is his own person - that could be helpful in your assessment of him. He is NOT Bush, or any of the rest. - thank the Lord! He IS his own person who is dedicated to working for not only the millions and millions who voted for him, but he is President of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Now that's hard to grab onto for some - even some of the media-types -- some of whom actually try to give him advice as to how he should do his job....true....!!! However, being the very well educated and thoughtful person that the President is - I'm sure that both he and Michelle were already prepared for the "taint tank." ....except....it "taint " working. Did he go to Camp David? YES --- ...now isn't that something --- sometimes Presidents go to Camp David!!!!! Duh!!!

Obama hasn't just been president for 18 days. He began the job immediately after election day last November, filling the vacuum created by the already-finished George W. Bush.

Bush's whole presidency was a vacuum. Into which stepped Dick Cheney.

Good for him.
If he when and stayed a full year at camp David, he'd still be short of what time Bush spent there. Then he'd have to go to a ranch and spend a full year there and still wouldn't match Bush's time spend at a ranch. Then he could turn the Whitehouse into a mental ward and that would sum up Bush's terms.
