Bristol Palin: ESPN Headquarters Inspired Her Name

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

In an interview with Esquire (quotes from which caused a minor media scuffle in January), Sarah Palin reveals the source of her daughter Bristol's name:

Two meanings in Bristol's name: I worked at the Bristol Inn, and Todd grew up in Bristol Bay. But also, Bristol, Connecticut, is the home of ESPN. And when I was in high school, my desire was to be a sportscaster. ESPN was just kicking off, just getting off the ground, and I thought that's what I was going to do in life, is be one of the first woman sportscasters. Until I learned that you'd have to move to Bristol, Connecticut. It was far away. So instead, I had a daughter and named her Bristol.

She also gave Bristol some advice on her upcoming marriage:

This is what I've been telling Bristol, before she gets married, is, Bristol, there are definitely gonna be tough parts in marriage. You have to look at those tough times and remember that you have essentially a business contract with this person. You've signed an agreement: You're going to be together. And you look at it that way as you work through the tough times, because I guarantee the better time is there on the other side. That's how we've looked at it.

ESPN Vice President Mike Soltys suggests it could be worse: there are a number of children named ESPN.

He hasn't heard of another Bristol, but "it wouldn't surprise me if there are others," Soltys said.

Bristol Mayor Art Ward tells the local paper that it's probably for the best that Palin stayed in Alaska.

"You can't see Russia from here," he said.

Maybe they copulated in Bristol Inn and ended up giving their daughter the name Bristol. Hey! Be positive people! It could have been worse such as KFC! (Note the sarcasm)

Is this a story? Why are all the pictures of Bristol from around the RNC? Why didn't the "shotgun" wedding happen? Why are the $300K pictures of Tripp invisible?

Spalin is the perfect example of a person formed by the media culture. Vacuous, ill-informed, misguided, and naming her kids after things like "Track" and ESPN's home town.

Loser.

So let me get this straight. This woman wanted to work for a company located in Bristol, Connecticut, but did not think that she would have to leave Wasilla, Alaska to go and work for them?

Was she aware that if she became Vice-President that she would have to work in Washington?

Why would she? She is Governor and refuses to live and work in the capital, but continues to maintain her residence in Wasilla.

Ah Sarah honey, I hate to break this to you, but that is actually THREE meanings to Bristol's name, not TWO.

1) You worked at the Bristol Inn
2) Todd grew up in Bristol Bay
3) ESPN is located in Bristol, Connecticut

Math is not one of her strong suits as you clearly pointed out. Come to think of it, a lot of things aren't her strong suit.

The Bristol Inn is located in the heart of Bristol Bay, so she probably lumped those two together. It's amazing how many seem to be obsessed by Mrs. Palin and what she does/has done. Yea, she might have been the VP, but she isn't, so move on already.

Why am I not suprised. She put as much careful thought into naming her daughter as she did in her decision to run for the second highest office in the country.
As always...bravo Palin. You are not disappointing us

I'm surprised though that she would name her daughter after a city from a not "real america" state!
