I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Kidding aside, it's a good idea for Bill to bug people about how important it is to find more effective preventions and cures for malaria. It'd be a win-win if he triggers a viable anti-malaria approach, because not only would people in equatorial nations suffer less, but we at TreeHugger would no longer have to put up with the hostile accusations of Think Tank experts who are still convinced that a DDT sprayed liberally, everywhere bugs lurk, is the way to go.

He did NOT release anything! He THREATENED to do so, but didn't. Misleading headline.

I have a different perspective on things. I wonder if he is losing his mind. First he unleashes a very defective Windows Vista on the world, then he unleashes what are hopefully safe mosquitos on an audience. Is there a pattern here?

I am in awe of what Bill Gates is doing with his money to improve the world.

Bill is such a skillful philanthropist that Warren Buffet is willing his very substantial wealth [10's of billions] to the Gates foundation with no strings or instructions attached . Both Bill and Melissa are young, vigourous and they are well organized to transfer wealth back to our planet and countries that gave them such opportunities in their lifetime. For your information, this is income redistribution! Attention Sarah Palin, Joe the Plumber, the nouveaux rich and the Republicans.

I think that Gates and Microsoft could better distribute wealth by making their products more affordable to consumers.

VOLUNTARY income distribution, which is what it always should be. I guarantee you that Bill Gates will spend his money FAR more effectively than any government ever could.

Think tank experts. Yeah, why would anyone want to put up with the hostile accusations of Think Tank Experts. I hate think tank experts thinking they know it all. Well i have a think tank too, and they cant join. Today we're exploring the pros and cons of mortgage backed derivatives, where you sell the odds that the mortgages will stay current. It seems that the value of money may be what someone is willing to risk here and now to insure it. That's how you create wealth: by taking that risk.

Of course no one can explain this but Greenspan, the part I just wrote I made up the way he used to. Our first grade teachers told us about the trust that gets violated when you set a value upon the dollar, although the advice was not worth a continental.

I like his protest style alot. Malaria is the top killer in 3rd world countries and it can easily be treated, but nobody cares.

I think it really brought the message home. Someone once said that if AIDS were transmitted on golf carts, that we'd have a cure for it already.

As a resident of Long Beach I don't much appreciate him releasing mosquitoes here. We have West Nile virus carrying mosquitoes and we don't need to increase our mosquito population. I hope that he AT LEAST had the decency to release sterilized insects.
Next time I'd request that he make the point in his own home town.

Gates is most definitely improving with age.

Amazing how people still have a go at Bill Gates.

I'm no fan of MS Products but at the end of the day MS takes money from the wealthiest 5% in the world (Western PC users) who can afford it, and then Bill Gates tries to give all his money away to make some difference to the world's poorest.
He's pretty close to being Robin Hood, in my book.

Anyway, the fact that so many people have blogged about the mozzy incident shows what an excellent awareness raising act it was. The statistics about malaria are shameful and it's a disgrace that they came as news to so many people. Whoever thought up this stunt was a genius.

He's making some very important points, totally apart from DDT and malaria. In fact, that is not the solution, from what I heard.

I judged him the other day for releasing mosquitoes, without listening to his speech. I listened to him today, and I am impressed.

He's stressing education and emphasis be placed on science and medicine. That's what this talk was about.

My grandparents died of malaria...3 days apart...after visiting Latin America.
Plasmodium Falciparum malaria is a horrible disease and must be "treated" by
eliminating the vector (transmission cycle) rather than merely treating the
symptoms. The protozoan parasites, which live in the mosquitoes must be
killed so that the bite of the mosquito will not infect people with malaria.
Gates is using his money for the benefit of makind and his stunt is another
Houdini-like way to awaken people to the need for success in combatting this
scourge of humanity in much of the world. With global warming seeming to be
true, for whatever reason, the mosquitoes will migrate to new areas and will,
if not checked, cause millions of more deaths.

Bill & T.E.D.'s Odd Adventure.

May've appeared a little on the strange side, but it's good to see him working for something that he loves and will actually help millions of people.

EXCELLENT!

As I said previously, this is tantamount to pointing an unloaded pistol at someone's head and pulling the trigger. Mr. Gates was the only person that knew the mosquitoes weren't infected.

If I had been at that conference and had unfettered access to Mr. Gates, I guarantee that he would think twice about pulling something similar again.

And I bet you'd yell the answer to quiz questions at a game show and
tell kids there was no Santa Claus too. Get a grip, dude. We came from
pioneer stock....people who voyaged the seas on sailing ships and chopped
down trees to build cabins. Gird thy loins and be a man!

No, if you watched the video rather than reading just the headline, you would have known that he told the crowd that.

That was cool. From the moronic comments, I thought he released 80 5gallon drums full of mozzies and would let the audience escape. He released less than a dozen

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:18 AM on 02/07/2009

Yeah, he released a dozen, but over sixty percent of those released have joined Al Qaeda, according to Dick Cheney.

Does he not realize that, good intentions aside, doing something like this is clearly the behavior of a super villain?

Nah, Gates isn't a villain. He is never shown with a white cat in his lap.

Maybe he already released the cat into a crowd of people with feline allergies.

Exactly and I don't think they were just a few mosquitoes either. He released nanites. All part of his plan to take over the world.
