LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police say Chris Brown has turned himself in to authorities investigating an alleged felony battery involving the R&B singer.

Los Angeles police officer Karen Smith says Brown walked into a station around 7 p.m. and was being interviewed by detectives. Smith said he was not in custody.

Police say the 19-year-old singer and a woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood early Sunday when they began arguing, and the argument escalated when they got out of the car.

Police say the woman identified Brown as her attacker, but he was gone by the time officers arrived.

Both Brown and his girlfriend, fellow singer Rihanna, were no-shows for Sunday night's Grammy Awards. Both were nominated and scheduled to perform.

what makes all of the cases of abuse like this challenging...women do not leave. many would rather stay than to be without..amazing...this makes it, not acceptable, but, not understandable. If you have a son it is the woman's responsibility to teach her son how to treat a woman..women do not look out for women like they should. Every man that acts this way has a mother. this could be your son.

we've all been young and dumb - but we don't all beat our friends/lovers - she's young, beautiful, and she can find a good man - he can work out his problems in therapy behind bars -

What the hell is wrong with most of you people. He beat up a women, cut her lips, blacken her eyes. You should be appalled at this. But most of what I have heard so far is I hope they work it out, I'll be praying for them, or I don't snitch. You should be saying I hope he does jail time, and she leaves his ass. But this is the hip hop community and this is America. Just like R Kelly, who has settled out of court over 15 time for underage girls you will all forgive him. This is why the world is going tell hell. Dumb ass's all of you.

Advice to young girls. Pay attention to how your boy friend treats his mother and sisters. Some times this helps to see how a young man treats women.

I can not believe that everyone is throwing stones at him. No one has seen neither of them, and they haven't really charged him w/anything seriouse yet. They are both young and dumb, until we hear the entire story people need to just go on w/their lives. I don't condone any violence and against any living being, but what happened to letting him have his day in court. He hasn't even had his say yet, and I refuse to stop listening to his music based on what is in the media. Post the pictures and then I'll have to see how I feel.

I dont feel sorry for any adult that allows themselves to be abused in any way buy anyone. There are always signs in the first week that a person you are seeing has issues and it seems she ignored them cause if you pretend to not see something it just goes away.Chris was totally wrong but I think she needs to do some major work on herself also.

his image is taking a real beating in the media. He needs to step out and defend himself if he wishes to remain relevant. This incident shouldn't be the last thing people remember about him.

As of this moment, the police have not arrested him so they must know something we don't. We don't have all the facts in about this and the internet is ripe with heresay about both of them.
It's not right for anyone to strike anyone in anger, especially some bigger and stronger. That is completely unacceptable on any level, however, don't go getting all 'Rush Limbaughed' out and start making accusations without the true facts and the whole story.........

There is a book "Why Men Batter Women" that deals with the issue of domestic violence ... firstly, there is no excuse for anyone to hit anyone ... ever. Most people say "We had better stop this right now before I say something I don't mean." or walks away. Secondly, when a weapon is used size or gender of the person holding it is irrelevant. Domestic violence is based on a larger person verbally, physically, sexually, financially or emotionally assaulting a more vulnerable person. As a woman who was married to a man who was physically, financially and verbally abusive the only solution is to get out ... abusers, male or female, are frightened, immature people filled with rage, which is out of control anger. Most just go on to other victims and never change nor get help. There is a woman hit every forty-five seconds in this country and two women killed every day ... Brown is a poster boy for a batterer.

i keep hearing "there is no reason what so ever, for a man to strike a woman", that is BS. There are situations in which a man can also feel threatened by a woman and want to defend themselves. Woman are not always the innocent victims they try and make themselves out to be. I'm speaking from experience. My brother went to jail behind a Woman, lying on him. so beware. There are a such thing as PSYCHOS and they will do anything to be the center of attention.

Wow. I feel sorry for your life. No it is NEVER okay for anyone to strike anyone else, and it is particularly bad when the clearly stronger person strikes the clearly weaker person. You can scream all you want, but use words not fists - EVER. That requires self discipline and a respect for all other people, regardless of how difficult or irritating or frustrating or even outrageous they may be acting. Yell at them and WALK AWAY. Clearly, your parents did not get that lesson across to you and I'm presuming there was a fair amount of physical punishment in your house growing up. That is why you justify violence now and why your brother had his problems. Time to do some serious reflection on your inner life and probably get some help for that anger.

What part of the Phrase "Defend Themselves" did you not understand , in Typhanie's post ?

Are you saying that women aren't capable of some of heinous and brutal assaults also ?

You just jumped on this poster without any kind of serious reasoning....I feel sorry for YOUR life.

All Typhanie did was tell a truth: Which is that women can be EQUALLY as brutal and abusive as men.

Unreal.

In their heart of hearts, men are afraid women will laugh at them and scorn them.
In their heart of hearts, women are afraid men will beat them and kill them.

In my teen years, I had a steady boyfriend who gradually went from charming to possessive, to controlling and then to verbally abusive/borderline physically abusive toward me. He ended up in jail on drug charges. When I went to visit him there, I had a life-changing epiphany. When the visit inevitably devolved into his usual manipulative, venomous tirade, I turned to walk away, and for once, because he was behind bars, he couldn't grab my arm and keep me from leaving!!!!! He changed his tune BUT FAST. Like magic. He suddenly became apologetic and sweet. So I came back and let him have another chance, mostly out of amazement and curiosity. Minutes later, when the venom came back, I turned to leave and this time, kept walking. The feeling of liberation and enlightenment was incredible. It was like, "OH, NOW I SEE WHAT THIS GUY'S ABOUT..."

So, Rihanna, girl, I suggest you take advantage of this tragic, near-death (my guess) opportunity to do just what I did. Don't return his calls, block his emails, change your number, and move to an undisclosed address if you have to. Sever all contact immediately, forever.

And get a copy of everything Gavin DeBecker has written, starting with The Gift of Fear.

You keep walking, and don't look back.

You blithely assume that all women and men are trapped in your personal heterosexual drama.

Sorry----the rhetorical tricks don't lend themselves to total accuracy.

Of course there are exceptions. There always are. And these are tendencies--not to say they can't be overcome or counteracted upon. That's what separates humans from most other species.

No, dear, all men are not insecure fools.
No, dear, all women are not pathetic, cowering little victims.

Believe it or not, there are well adjusted people in this world.

Imagine a grown man biting a woman in anger? What kind of weirdo is he anyway? One could say it's childish like a little brattish boy. But more on the mark one could say that serial killers often bite their victims - anyone remember Ted Bundy? His bite got him the death penalty.

Too actually put your teeth into another person and bite down is indicative of a maniac. Lock that animal up and throw away the key because he will be more agressive the next time he attacks!

You weren't there to know the details of a situation that drove a man to bite a woman.

Unacceptable, but I keep harping it out here - No one will ever do me harm male or female, and their sex will not give me pause from defending myself.

Professional Help is called upon.... and Community Service should be in his immediate plans along with a big public apology>>>>!

Statisically, it will take two and a half years to totally recover...Chris
and she will sail to the top.... interviews, book deals, domestic violence seminars...

However, the entire matter is a tradegy for Chris's fans as the younger ones will just see this behavior as common place, and it is not, it is very sick and serious. He should engage in a good PR PERSON, to do some immediate damage control, and get rid of all that extra baggage of folks he travels around with... and immediately seek Anger Management help, and at some point public ally apologize. He's lucky she hasn'[t pressed charges and that has helped some of Chris's damage control. He should be very thankful for that much.

He is 19. He has his whole life ahead of him. If he can take this tragedy and if there is a program that really turns around the abuser..into one who can handle or transmute his anger to other channels..then he can help so many people. He can be a role model. He can be a symbol of hope. I just don't know if there is a program that actually works.
How about Reiki or Emotional Freedom Therapy. Chris and many like him have anger issues. They need to deal with their anger and then they need to learn boundaries. He grew up in a family without clear boudaries. So did I. It's hard to learn boundaries if its a concept most people think you take for granted, because they always had them.
