Bret Baier Talks About Son's Heart Problems (VIDEO)
Fox News' "Special Report" host Bret Baier was featured on "Entertainment Tonight" Friday on the same topic as the recent People article about him: his miracle baby, Paul, who's undergone two open heart surgeries thus far in his young life.
Bret and wife Amy tell "ET" about learning of Paul's heart problems.
"We were on cloud nine," Bret said.
"And then on day two, one of his nurses thought he looked a little bit pale," Amy said. "It turned out he had five major life-threatening heart defects."
"Imagine operating on a heart the size of a walnut, and sewing five different problems," Bret said. "An hour later, we got to see Paul — and at that moment, because of a concern about swelling, they leave the chest open. So there's our little child with a clear plastic bandage over his chest, and you could see the heart beating in the chest. We were standing at the bedside, looking at our child with a mix of emotions: of absolute shock and fear, of awe and of gratitude."
Paul is "more than a normal kid" now, his parents tell "ET."
"I record 'Special Report' every night, and I turned on the TV and it clicked to my show, and he said, 'No, DaDa, Elmo!'" Bret said.
