CNN Following Freshman Congressmen For Web Reality Show

  • Brian Stelter New York Times is tracking two freshman congressmen for a weekly series called "Freshman Year." The two politicians are producing most of the content themselves by carrying video cameras on Capitol Hill and writing essays about their experiences.

Mike Toppo, the senior supervising producer for news production at, said his team looked for "articulate and personable freshmen" with interesting biographies and contrasting backgrounds. They found two from neighboring states: Jared Polis, Democrat of Colorado, and Jason Chaffetz, Republican of Utah.

"They've asked us to give insight into what it's like to be a freshman and what it's like to be a congressman," Mr. Chaffetz said in a telephone interview.
