In a conference call with analysts late last month, Janet L. Robinson, the president and chief executive of The New York Times Company, laid out a vision of how the company would survive the downturn that is crippling the newspaper industry.

"As other newspapers cut back on international and national coverage, or cease operations, we believe there will be opportunities for The Times to fill that void," she said, for both readers and advertisers.

Hey just like fox down 227 million last quarter. I think it has more to do with following the corporate adgenda and reporting what the corporation want.
If they had real reporters, reporting the real news instead of being good little propaganda peddlers, they might have survrived.
The way it stands today the MSM print, radio, and TV in America are done.
They no longer serve the greater good only the company line.
That is what has ruined the MSM and America.
We will come back but the MSM in it's present form is dead and gone forever.
RIP! Well maybe it should be RIH! Rot In Hell! lol

Strangely enough newspapers are doing fine in Europe.

Would it be because they do more, and better, reporting and less punditry?

People are better educated and tend to read more. Just compare CNN with CNN International.
