Jon Stewart Rips Bill O'Reilly Over Hypocrisy On Privacy (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart ripped Bill O'Reilly on Monday night's "Daily Show" over his hypocritical stance on privacy.

O'Reilly, whose producers proudly ambush anyone who disagrees with him, has taken up as one of his pet causes the privacy of celebrities stalked by paparazzi.

"I think my favorite part about 'The Factor' is that they have no trouble reconciling their defense of celebrities' right to privacy with their intimidation of everyone else," Stewart said, showing unedited footage of O'Reilly segueing from an ambush of the Columbia Journalism Review editor on a city bus to outrage over "these vicious paparazzi."

"Coming up on 'The Factor,' cognitive dissonance," Stewart said.

Stewart then showed a clip of O'Reilly defending celebrities like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie against paparazzi followed by footage of one of his producers with a camera in Jolie's face after she reportedly banned Fox News from one of her movie premieres.

"The next time you're caught going through your ex-girlfriend's garbage and the police come to take you away, just tell them old Bill O'Reilly sent you," he said.

I think that Bill Moyers has the last word on this subject...

No one can deny his comments and actions were hypocritical. That's the problem with getting your news from any of these people, they are all about entertainment and making money, not about giving you just the news. The sad thing is most people act like sheep and just accept everything they here. Look at how many people believe in global warming. It's like the new religion, except God is the environment and you you just have to have faith that it global warming exist.

Oh, I get it : you're being ironic and giving us some of your own 'cognitive dissonance.' 'Cause that made absolutely zero sense.

I think tracking down a Vermont judge to ask him why he failed to imprison a convicted child rap!st and instead release him to a therapist is a bit different then hordes of paparazzi chasing down a celeb to sell photos to the tabloids. mmmhh...maybe just a bit?
10:28 PM on 02/12/2009
If that was the only doorstepping he'd ever done, it'd be radically different.

But seeing as typically O'Reilly ambushes people who simply espouse a political viewpoint that he doesn't agree with, talking up the right of privacy for famous Americans whilst simultaneously trampling all over the right of privacy of journalists, political activists and academics is rank, venal hypocrisy. Just a little bit.

Bill-O shows how gullible conservatives are. You throw them a hapless wart in a suit and conservatives and they think he/she is an intellectual god! HAHA!

How do you define facts? When Fox hunts down people on the street, they are following leads, usually gossip or headlines, they are still hounding them in their private lives, rather than setting up an interview and respecting their privacy. It's just Fox can't understand that they are acting like a tabloid by ambushing people. Celebrities included (did you not watch the end, U2009?)

According to O'Reilly every person he's ever "hounded" turned down an opportunity to be interviewed.

Yeah, well that's their right... isn't it? Are they obligated to do an interview with O'Reilly?
01:35 PM on 02/12/2009
Is this show supposed to be funny? I suggest that they try again.
Taking pictures for no reason other than sell magazines is one thing. Interviewing someone to get specific facts is something completely different.
02:25 PM on 02/12/2009
If you were smart and understood the subject matter, yes, it was funny.
07:35 PM on 02/13/2009
O'Reilly and his ilk don't "interview...to get specific facts." An interview presumes consent on the part of the interviewee. "Don't bother me, I don't want to talk to you is not giving specific facts to Bill O'Reilly's inquiring mind.

Hypocracy is alive and well ... and renting space at FIXED News. Bill needs to let that cut under his nose heal ...
11:33 AM on 02/12/2009
wait, I thought Bill O'Reilly WAS a comedian! huh? Isn't fox news just a comedy channel? nobody actually believes that right? I mean, it's just for laughs right? right? All this time, i've been giving fox news huge ups for comedic value...

It is so sad that anyone watches Bill O'Reilly, he is a farse and a joke, at best he has and always will be a tabloid journalist, spewing garbage at the American people, we can only hope his ratings go down and Fox dumps his lying butt.

You know the media is in trouble because we get our news from a comedy network and our comedy from a (so called) "news" network. Certainly doesn't say much about the intelligence of the American public.

Bill O'Reilly - the low-hanging-fruit on the comedy circuit. When one can't find anything else to make fun of, there is always that dependable fall guy, O'Reilly.

The Hypocrisy of it all is H I L A R I O U S Jon. I see all the Billbo supporters taking a whack at you here but then they think making ra_ci_sts song parady's about ethic groups is just the funniest thing in the world.
GOP thinkers feel 'entitled and privileged' ... how dare we put a mirror up to them so that they have to look at themselves. Maybe they don't like what they see...?

One of the B E S T Shows ever Jon.

It was a great one - but that's why The Colbert Report is even better. The whole show is partly a (sometimes thinly disguised) parody of O'Reilly, but don't tell the conservatives. Then again, it is completely over most of their heads anyway.
