BERLIN — Michelle Pfeiffer has no problem with getting older _ in fact, she says, she found hitting 50 "liberating."

Pfeiffer appeared at the Berlin film festival Tuesday with "Cheri," directed by Stephen Frears, in which she stars as a 1920s lady of leisure who strikes up a relationship with a much younger man, played by Rupert Friend.

"It seems that my leading men just keep getting younger the older I get," Pfeiffer said a news conference. "It seems that people have an aversion to casting people of the same age _ luckily for me, I don't really mind it."

"The older you get, the roles actually become more interesting," said Pfeiffer, who turned 50 last year.

"If you think hitting 40 is liberating, wait till you hit 50 _ and I was surprised at how liberating it was," she said. "The anticipation of something is always much worse than the reality."

"Cheri," a melodrama which also stars Kathy Bates, is an adaptation of a novel by French writer Colette.

It teams up Pfeiffer and British director Frears 21 years after "Dangerous Liaisons," a film of which the actress said she had "fond memories."

"Cheri," which had its premiere in Berlin, is one of 18 contenders for the top Golden Bear award at the annual festival. The winner will be announced Saturday.

At 50, you can stop faking your age because 50 is 50 that's why it's liberating!!

No more peer pressure to stay 40 or look 40.

A HUGE weight has been lifted off her shoulders!!

And we all know this is about SEX!!

My first 50 years were good.

She is absolutley right. When I turned 40, i thought that was great. But... WOAH! When I turned 50... it was even better!

Folks, those of you who have not made it to 50 yet, it is sooooooo good! Some of the greatest things in my life have happened after I turned 50.

Why are there so few honest people in the world? let's speak the truth nobody wants to get older!
all this bs about 40 being the new 20 is hogwash, wishful thinking! Nobody wants to have white
hair, wrinkles, prostate problems, saggy skin, fat, etc. Most people I know would love to get plastic
surgery if they had the money they would to look younger. Youth and energy is what we all crave
that's why man has been looking for the fountain of youth since the dawn of civilization.

Lol, that's very negative!

I'm 23 and I think 40 and 50 and whatever comes after will be great. I look after myself, and while I won't be the same physically as I am now, watching my parents in their mid 50s, I know there is nothing to worry about. If you want to make it so, it can be an amazing period in your life. All this anxiety about getting old takes away from all the experiences you can have away from clubbing/get drunk, etc. Once you are over those things in your 20s, there is a whole world away from it that is just waiting to be explored. Not to mention all the maturing and life developments that happen along the way.

I'm not saying I want to be 50 now, but I'm sure by the time I am there, it will be as amazing as the rest of my life has been.

Its genetics and facial structure not plastic surgery that gives her the ageless look. Where I come from in India, there was an actress that looked exactly like her. Like a twin, except slightly darker skin and black hair. She was famous over there being just like this. Aging very very gracefully.

And this was back in 1990s in India. Where plastic surgery hadn't that much root. So... yea.

Look her up . The name is Rekha.

Liberated? I should say so ... at 50 you can stop holding in farts.

Oh! You're supposed to hold them in? I guess I've been liberated for a long time. No need to wait until 50.

She is in a way cursed with a conventionally pretty face - but I really took notice of her strong acting in "Dangerous Minds", "Dangerous Liaisons", "Fabulous Baker Boys", and "Frankie and Johnny". I consider the choices actors make a big part of their talent, and she has made mostly good choices. I hope she continues to get good work despite her "old age". Oh, and she is very hot - but of course that is completely beside the point.

I always thought she was beautiful and met her husband Kelley. He is a kind man and very pleasant-down to earth. Nice to see two wonderful people together

Would she still feel so liberated if she hadn't had all that plastic surgery?

50--the age so nice, Michelle hit it thrice! In the beginning of her career, Pfeiffer was 10 years older than me. Now, that gap has shrunk to six years. What up with that, Michelle? (I love you anyways.)

Nice to see an actress who keeps her private life private and doesn't force it on the rest of us like Jen Aniston.
