I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Since moving into their new digs, the first couple has hosted a half-dozen gatherings -- from bipartisan cocktail receptions to a public open house to the more intimate Super Bowl party two Sundays ago -- ending many of their days past midnight. Most recently, on Wednesday, the Obamas opened the White House doors to House caucus leaders from the moderate Blue Dog Democrats and the Congressional Black Caucus. White House aides say the couple hopes to make the Wednesday cocktail parties a tradition.

Friends say the Obamas are looking to maintain the dizzying social calendar they had in their pre-White House days, while using their knack for socializing to find new friends and win hearts on Capitol Hill and in other Washington power centers.

How great is it that we have a President who actually likes people and wants to have them around? After so many years of the Bush paranoia, it's very refreshing!

Oh, I love it! In the rural south where I live, Weds. nite is church nite for the folks (not me). So I especially love it that it is on a Weds. nite!

Weekly cocktails was a Richard Nixon habit. The press just loved the ' let your hair down' atmosphire. There are lots of other simulatities.

Michelle Obama always looks fabulous in the one color form fitting dresses. I remember the purple, the red and now the orange. She is quite bold in her color choices and obviously enjoys color, it is nice to see.

Social networking is part of the problem solving. DC needs more civility, both socially and politically.

I strongly suggest that they stick to serving beverages from American manufacturers, like Southern Comfort and Jim Beam. Promote American products!

You don't know much about the business and the political world, now do you? Networking is an essential component in getting things done in both worlds. Now be good and go to your corner.

Problem solving is done in an atmosphere where people can come to know one another. A cocktail party (where by the way you do not have to have an alchoholic drink) is a great way to meet people and talk to someone face to face. iI hope they do lunches and dinners, state dinners etc. That is where problem solving occurs. if you do not know that, you obviously have never been in business or involved with any type of organization that did any major problem solving.

getting to know your colleagues, creating a rapport, showing that you are a regular person
with family and friends who enjoys knowing people and their families....these are the bricks for building the foundation of bipartisanship and compromise.....

the obama's are so impressive and everything about them screams normal, decent, intelligent
and hard working....

our country is in capable hands.....finally!

Oh, c'mon. Rome burns for eight years and you want to castigate the Obamas for opening the White House doors and letting off steam one night a week? We're talking cocktails, for pete's sake.

How wonderful is it to have a President with enough self-control (unlike George W. Bush) to handle a social cocktail from time to time, and to have cocktail parties back in the White House again?

Answer: PLENTY wonderful!

One thing they should do is have other country Presidents, etc to come to the white house. This reminds me of the Kennedy's. If they like you, they will help you in a time of war. :-)

This is a great idea to have have Wednesday Cocktail Gatherings to socialize and network. We have a very smart President and First Lady who really are trying to make a difference in the US.
