Michelle Jaconi, a 12-year veteran of NBC News' "Meet the Press," is joining CNN as Executive Producer of "State of the Union with John King," CNN announced Wednesday.

Jaconi served as producer and political analyst for Tim Russert's "Meet the Press," and will be charged with building CNN's new politics show into a similar Sunday morning powerhouse.

"Michelle is a perfect fit for our team and our mission," John King said. "Her deep experience in smart and aggressive Sunday morning television speaks for itself. And her passion for making things relevant to the people who matter most - the families and communities outside Washington - is what we're looking for in this key leadership role."

"Joining CNN and State of the Union at this moment in history is an extraordinary opportunity," Jaconi said. "CNN is at the top of its game, and John is the best political reporter of his time. I'm honored to work with John and his team to reinvent Sunday morning news. It's the right time, the right network and the right reporter. "

CNN Political Director Sam Feist said he's counting on Michelle to land newsmaker interviews.

"Michelle, with her experience in landing and producing brilliant interviews, will help us leverage the resources of CNN's political team and newsgathering operation to create a program unlike any other," he said.

Tim came across as enthusiastic but I was never that impressed by the depth or honesty of his interviews. David is just childish. John is just so biased. It is a shame,he had quite an opportunity. I suppose we should blame the networks for wasting our time and look elsewhere for our info.

If John King had been working for NBC, he would have gotten the MTP job. I agree with other people on here that Chuck Todd is better than Gregory. But, I disagree with people who trash Gregory--making things up like he panders to pols. He was one of Bush's harshest enemies in the press room. He's good. You don't get to be NBC's White House correspondent without being good.

But, Chuck Todd is better. And, John King might be the best... after Chris Matthews.

John King is awesome. I've stopped watching "Meet the Press" when David Gregory took over. Watch "State of the Union" it's a much better show and the moderator asks much smarter questions.

Save MTP! Bring Chuck Todd in to host! I've watched Meet the Press for 17 years, but find it less enjoyable with Gregory as host.

Even Tim's people know that David Gregory's gig isn't worth their time...

I've been trying to stomach John King on Sunday mornings since I cannot bring myself to ever watch DAvid Gregory, but unless he starts to be more neutral, I'm going to have give him up also. John King and Dana Bash, his wife, you can certainly tell that they are Republicans. He had a great chance to grab some of Tim Russerts viewers, but he has to do better than what he's doing.

I agree completely!!! I stopped watching last week. I think folks confused him with his maps. The maps are good. John King... not so much.

State of the Union is a MUCH better show than Gregory's MTP. I switched over permanently 2 Sundays ago.

gud idea for her to get away from gregory, a born sinker for audience drops.

The first few weeks of John King's Sunday program was little more than FOX lite. Next to King, Gregory is not that bad, or at least not as bad as I expected.

This makes sense. John King has much more gravitas than David Gregory. Looking forward to seeing how this new team works out.

I really can't blame her for ditching Buster's Titanic...but John King? I don't know...that's like exchanging Frick for Frack.

John King is a perfect corporate shill. Remember Michael Crichton's "Looker", or Andrew Niccol's bomb "S1m0ne"? Lifeforms like King remind one that computer algorithms aren't in fact necessary to generate a sponsor-friendly mask of a man. Ditto AC.
