I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Late Thursday night, more than 24 hours after the announcement of a deal with the Senate, the House Rules Committee posted the final version of H.R.1 -- the compromise stimulus package that is scheduled for a vote on Friday.

Here are the links:

Joint Explanatory Statement - Division B

Since we published the first version of the stimulus back on January 24, Huffington Post readers have spent countless hours combing through its evolving versions to figure out precisely what the taxpayers are being asked to fund. We're asking you to do it one more time. And this time, you have to do it fast. The House is expected to convene at 9:00 Friday to begin debating the bill and vote on it sometime in the afternoon. Then it's on to the Senate.

What we're looking for: anything new that has been injected into this bill. Determining what's new isn't easy, but comparing this version to the Senate and House versions is one way. A better way, with the limited amount of time left, may be to send us anything you find interesting. We've been living and breathing this bill and might be able to tell quickly if it's something new or not.

Tell us about anything that stands out by emailing submissions+stimulus@huffingtonpost.com, and we'll publish the best finds.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!!

It's just some bankers and special interest groups, you'll see the bill after we pass it (when it's too late).

According to Bright Solutions, a dyslexia support community and education center, the senate version of the bill used special wording for IDEA and Title 1 (NCLB) funding that allows states to request special permission from the Secretary of Education to use the money, delegated for funding IDEA and NCLB, outside of its purpose or in place of state funds. I've received a number of emails today from Special Education websites asking me to write and try to keep this from happening:

"Parents and advocates, along with teachers, administrators, states and local school districts, have been working to achieve additional federal funding for IDEA for decades. With this additional $13 billion for K-12 special education over 2 years, the federal government will raise its special education funding to its highest level ever. However, needed improvements to services for students with disabilities will not be realized if states and local districts are allowed to lower their contributions to special education and Title I by the amount of these new federal funds. These waiver authority in the Senate bill will allow that to happen." (From a Bright Solutions email sent to me)

Obama... I want an exit strategy!

There is no doubt that if you borrow trillions now you can make the bad men go away. You are in the gator tank my friend... just pray you don't run out of meat!

No country in history has ever spent it's way to prosperity... There is no magic formula Obama has hidden from us.

Our fiscal body is down and bleeding badly and the people are pushing the paramedic aside and clamoring for more blood!

One day we will actually have to pay on this account. One day this country will no longer be able to borrow... then what?

Things can... and will... get a lot worse. Most of you partisan ignoramouses need to address the real long term issue. This debacle did not come out of greed... this was pure and open public policy coming home to roost. Freddie and Fannie are at the heart of it but not nearly the entire story. This is all about your government acting as governments do.

Once you anti-trickle-downers see the money dry up again, and Obama or whoever comes next is left pushing the "borrow" button again and again, and nothing happens... then what?

The only way out is fiscal responsibility. That is it. Spend less than you make, save for the future, pay back your loans.

The alcoholic is tending the bar... what do you expect him to do?!

No, the alcoholic tending the bar left office about a month ago. We've got a completely sober guy, now, and he's cleaning up the puke left by the drunk. It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

Ok...you've ranted enough. If you're unemployed, how do you recommend that people save and pay back loans. Even the Republican companies are in hock up to their ears.

I don't see any solutions to real problems. And Freddie and Fannie are not the heart of the problem. It was the deregulation that allowed bundling of toxic assets. By selling off the mortgages, the banks were no longer able to do what was in their best interest...renegotiating the mortgages so they received most of their money instead of none of it.

And lets not forget the huge rise in energy cost. Our business felt the effect of that more than any of the others because we don't rely on loans to stay afloat. But when regular people began putting necessities on credit cards, because heating and transportation costs ate into their already slim budgets...well that's when we knew we were in for a long, tough road.

Reading through the bill is tough... no "earmarks", but plenty of money to go around. I wish it was 2 Trillion instead of 1... The highway stuff looks the same. I too have had trouble paying my bills, and I already did my own bailout... I mortgaged my house again. I can't afford the payment so I am saving part of my "stimulus" for future payments. I should be good for another few years... then it's off the deep-end with Obama! I figure there will be another bailout around the corner anyway... be there for me O... please just be there!

Sorry, meaning the federal extension of unemployment benefits.

I (like millions of others I'm sure) was under the impression that there would be an extension of benefits in this bill. There is only an extension of the time you have to file for the federal extensions that were implemented in 2008. What are the people who have ran out of benefits under the last two extensions to do now? Its like false advertising!

Really? Is that your best retort? How many republicans act like Lincoln.?

The comparrison is to transformational men who help the office, not their party affiliation. Lincoln made difficult choices to retore the nation after an economic arguement led to the confederacy. Obama will have to gut the financial sector and wrest control granted by the Republicans back to the hands of consumers. He'll make tough choices that will return our economic base back to industry, and away from the republican service sector.

Well, aside from Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Clinton, and I loved much about Carter.....but the Rep. party of Lincoln's time and the character of the man couldn't be any different from the Republicans of today. Lincoln would most definitely not belong to today's Republican party. Plus we are about building bridges and the greater good and don't care as much about fear, labels, falling in lockstep like sheep, so we embrace the great leader because he was a great man, regardless.

I find it AMAZING that you have so little knowledge of American political history. The modern republican party is a party of white rich southerners. The republican party of lincolns time was one of northern liberals. The emancipation of slaves was a liberal idea. Lincolns republicanism defeated traitorous southerners who called themselves confederates. Show me a democrat today who celebrates the rebel flag. You are in serious need of an education.

Yes, we have admirable Presidents that we aspire to, Lincoln among them. Didn't you take history in school? Lincoln's Republicans were the Dems of the day, the parties have very famously switched roles since his time. So Repubs saying that they are "The Party of Lincoln" is just another crock in an ongoing series of crocks by the Crock of S*** Party.

I thought Barack told me, his voter that all government business would be transparent and posted on the internets for all to review five days before an actionable vote? Did I get this wrong?

Thanks in advance......

On Whitehouse government business, that is correct. He doesn't have control over how congress conducts its business.

HR 1 and S336 and S350 have been in the Congressional Record since 24 hurs after introduction. New rules set by the Dem's last year prevent additions to a conference bill - only subractions.

It's been online for more than two weeks.

The .pdf format is the choice of the Library of Congress. They bought the software when the Republicans authorized the purchase.
