Speaking of jobs, did you see the Ann Curry interview of Bill Clinton in TX, on the news this morning?
She lobbed him a few powder puffs, and totally avoided the hard questions!

That is: "How did you, Mr. Clinton, a highly educated men, not figure that signing NAFTA would help to totally drain America of jobs?"
or
"How could you not even seem to give a damn that American jobs would be washed away if you signed NAFTA?
or
"Since you were so smart and could easily figure what the ramifications of making NAFTA law would be, whose interests were you serving when you signed it?"

Global?

Let's risk beyond 'tolerance!'

Maybe we need to actively transition to the worldly dependent lifestyles we seek. Let's explore our local planets, investigate the depths of our oceans, understand the delight and enlightenment in the brains of our advisaries. Be it green, technical, with cotton milled overseas, solar and wind power with disciplines known only to the pious in the hills of Afghanistan, Nike's from all over the globe, and adventure travel to the ends of the earth.

The american conservatives want to hurt the whole world just so they can hurt the middle class, to fix this mess we need to get back to pre-reagan tax rates for the rich the big buisness, make them pay their "fair" share of taxes again!

Look for more protectionism, lack of coordination between countries on a whole host of issues, INCLUDING anti-terrorism measures ( would not be surprised to see some countries arrive at a modus vivendi with Al Qaeda, the Taliban, etc. ) in the final analysis, it's US they hate.

It's already happening, it's a real worry because if and when countries are more and more economically stressed who are they going to look at to blame?...

More than likely us because it was our Reaganist economic model of deregulation that apparently went global....

Not good...

Well, lets hope it does not; lets pray that the economy surprise us and start doing MUCH better than expected.

It's scary to think about all those people losing their jobs.

Many of those people are in already extremely overpopulated countries. When food becomes scarce or too expensive, what will be the expected result?

"Worldwide job losses from the recession that started in the United States in December 2007 could hit a staggering 50 million by the end of 2009, ... " This is the beginning of a very deep period of chaos and radical action on the part of US leaders is needed. The financial elite have been allowed to destroy the foundations of sound economics and their influence must be curtailed. 50 million hungry and desperate people will cause a lot of havoc don't you think ! Now, who's asleep at the wheel ... certainly not those who want to turn democracies and republics into fascist states that enslave ordinary people. This recession is a depression and will only get worse if serious government restrictions on capital banking practices and fiscal accountability are not brought into play in the marketplace! This is the legacy of Bush and his criminal cronies!

The alarmists and dystopics are getting way out of hand. 50 million is less than 1 percent of the people in the world. In terms of global employment it's barely a rounding error. And it is not even close to enough people to destabilize the world or cause any serious or lasting problems. People are allowing the conspiracy buffs and malthusians to panic them, when the situation isn't even near calamitous. People need to mellow out.

If you make it unatractive to conduct buisness in your country, what can you expect? Since NAFTA in the 90's, companies have been running from this country to avoid environmental restrictions, unions and taxes. We have been unloading jobs for decades. Now that other countries have made it more attractive for buiness why would they want to come back. If we can't compete , we lose........ EXP: you could choose the more expensive american made or the cheap Chinese product....we have all voted for the cheap the last 15 years. Put your money were your mouth is !!!!

If you want to take advantage of the great infrastructure, CLEAN WATER AND AIR, social stability, etc, then you have to play by the rules. If not, take your business and your family and go to Mexico, China, or any of the other places these jobs are going. Or, are Americans ready to live at the standards that the low wages the companies want to pay, drink the filthy water, breath air that kills you, and stay in debt with no hope for improving your standard of living. Yep, big bidnez really knows how to run a sustainable economy.

Yeh. So smart to impoverish the historically, greatest consumer base in the world to the point where they can no longer afford to buy your products and services. Maybe the consumers making $2.00 an hour in the developing world will pick up the slack. You know, a 44" plama tv in a mudhut or designing a yurt around a $200.00 anodized faucet?

You say that like it's a choice we're at liberty to make. Try living in Los Angeles where people ALREADY drink filthy water, breathe air that kills them and have no hope for improving their standard of living!!
