I don't know how this was filmed. But somebody commented that this fish must have lost or never had reflexes because it didn't move. It never had a chance, fish react to vibrations and sight in and near the water and quickly decide to attack or retreat in the presence of stimuli. The angle and speed of attack precluded any response.
Notice at the end of the video how quickly a second fish picked up on the distress of the first fish and swam through the picture to see if there would be any easy pickings. Replay the video and center your index finger where fish 1 is. Hold it there through the video and you will notice fish 2 stops exactly where fish 1 was. There is nothing to eat so it casually swims away. Predators are very efficient. There is nothing more elegant than nature.
It is cold here in Iowa. I can't wait to soak a bluegill this spring.
