People:

Jay-Z struck a serious note Saturday when asked for his words of support for Rihanna.

"This is a real situation," he said in Phoenix at the Sprite Green presents the Third Annual Two Kings dinner with Jay-Z and Lebron James, as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend.

"You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that," the hip-hop mogul, 39, continued.

I like Jay-Z but his opinion is invalid. Compassion? Gimme a break. How serious can you take a guy who calls women b****s and h*'s and generally refers to them as sex objects?

His lyrics inspire kids into being "gangstas", killers and drug dealers. Most hip-hop (and also now R&B) is engulfed by violent and mysoginistic messages.

Live by the sword...
too bad it swung in Rihanna's direction.

Exactly!!! I have been saying that all week!!! I like Jay Z too but, give me a break...

Jay Z commented because he is like a brother to Rhianna...So he cant have feelings toward this situation just because of his lyrics? Get a grip...He's a married man...and Ive never seen Beyonce w/ any bruises

I think he thinks she's hot

Just one question for you Jay-Z, when you stabbed one of your managers in your early days, what were you thinking and what where you thinking people should be thinking? I am sure you were praying for mercy and a second chance...look at you now........
Its so easy to forget our shortcomings and just be so judgemental. Rihanna is going to be fine But guess what? so will Chris Brown.
I am really disappointed in you Jay-Z, cos i used to see you as a mature and objective person who has been through all kinds of circumstances, someone the younger artist can go to in time of trouble but obviously i was wrong...

Where is he not being objective? How is Jay Z being immature? Chris Brown has admitted laying his hands on Rihanna and now claims to be remorseful and sorry. Why is it a bad thing to want to have Rihanna in our prayers and feel compassion towards her? No one is claiming to be perfect but Chris Brown should not get a pass for his behavior. Just saying "I'm sorry" and wanting a second chance are not enough especially when this may not be the first instance of this behavior. One major reason domestic violence is so pervasive is that the perpetrators of this violence, even when reported, are not punished to the extent they should be. You are correct when you state that Chris Brown will be okay. Abusers usually are and hopefully he will get the counseling and legal punishment he needs and deserves. Sure his career is going to be impacted and his image is tarnished but he has millions of dollars and even if his career has been wrecked he WOULD be fine anyway. Rihanna, hopefully, will be too. However, if you have ever been around a victim of violence then you would be aware this will impact her over a long period of time and while the physical bruises may heal quickly the psychological scars will be more lasting.

If it was your friend who was hurt would you want a second chance for Brown--and no--you would NOT be objective...besides, what is wrong with saying have compassion for Rhianna? He knows her personally as a friend so I think he has a right to want to speak out for her and be protective...

His lyrics glorify abusing women, and he tries to speak like a responsible adult . Didn't he hit a female fan not too long ago? He should just go away.

Joshu:

You sound like a FAN and not an objective person.

Compassion is for EVERYONE. Not just the artist you are making money off of. Jay makes money off of Rihanna and he brought her into the industry.

Have you heard jay's lyrics? he isnt exactly a feminist lol If CB was his artist he'd be saying,. "we should wait til all the facts are in blah blah blah"

Was he thinking about his mother when Faith was beat by his best friend Biggie?

Was he thinking about his mother when Foxxy Brown was beat by her ex-boyfriend?

NOPE. So yeah Jay-Z is one of the best rappers out there and I love his work. But that doesnt mean he isnt a hypocrite.
