Angela Suleman, Octuplet Grandmother On Resentment, Disappearing Retirement Checks (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 3/19/09 Updated: 11/17/11

Angela Suleman

Octuplet grandmother Angela Suleman spoke to "The Early Show's" Maggie Rodriguez, the first interview she's given since cashing in with a videotaped interview for Radar Online in which she slammed her daughter and gave a tour of their cramped home.

After calling her daughter "unconscionable" Angela has softened some, saying "you can resent your daughter for just so long."

"I was actually very upset that my daughter had gone and done this in-vitro," Suleman said. "But after I saw them, you know, I thought, my goodness, these are my grandchildren. They're so tiny and fragile. I'll have to be there for them, you know, like I was for the others."

She also said of paying for the six kids she has already been helping to raise that "my retirement check goes every month. it's just gone."

What is this on the latest issue of Us magazine displaying a picture of Nadya and something about her obcession with plastic surgery and breast implants? If I hear she came up with money for breast implants, this is more irritating if there is truth to this. If you can't pay a mortgage and behind 10 months of payments, there seems to be money for all these surgeries, IVF procedures. What the hell? The grandparents are enablers to her and are just as bad. DId Nayda ever here the word NO from her parents.

THE OLD SULIMAN CON...

I cannot believe these people. In last night’s news, on Wed. 2/18/09, it was reported that Nadya’s mother’s home is being foreclosed on for unpaid mortgage payments totaling $23,000.00. The mother just rec’d $40,000 from an interview she just recently gave, when she said her “daughter doesn’t always think clearly.”

Now, I hear the mother is loosing her house, where they all still live with the 6 older kids, and are waiting for the Octuplets to come home to. Folks these people are in dire need of psychiatric help. Why on earth did the woman not pay her back mortgage payments from the money both she and Nadya are collecting from TV interviews they see fit to give constantly is beyond me.

Or perhaps they are just waiting for someone to “DONATE A LARGER HOUSE” TO THEM, and simply walk away from their smaller, not paid for yet, foreclosed house.

PLEASE FOLKS, DON’T DONATE ANYTHING TO THESE TWO WOMEN, NADYA’S MOM, I’M SORRY TO SAY, IS JUST AS CAGEING AS NADYA IS.

NOTICE I SAID: “CAGEING, NOT CRAZY, BECAUSE THEY ARE PLAYING THE PUBLIC FOLKS, WAITING FOR THEIR BAIL-OUT BASED ON PUBLIC SYMPATHY FOR THE BABIES, IF NOTHING ELSE.

I feel sorry for the grandmother and can empathize with her problem; however, Nadya cannot possibly be a good mother. A good mother, by definition, is a woman who can provide the emotional, psychological, and financial support it takes to raise a child. There should be laws in place to protect people from exploiting their own reproduction the way Nadya has done. It will be interesting to see in ten years what happens to this family. All may turn out well for these fourteen children, and I hope it does, however, my gut tells me it won't. My heart breaks for the babies, as they are innocent victims in a psycho mother's twisted game.

HOLD YOUR SYMPATHY frankel1205 ...

THE WOMAN: (MOM) HASN'T PAID ANY OF HER MORTGAGE PAYMENTS FROM ANY OF HER INTERVIEW MONIES EITHER. "Waiting for a Bail-out for herself, Nadya and 14 grandkids ?

Grandmaw, (and grandpaw) would've been able to stop all this madness had they learned to simply say "NO" to Nadya growing up. A little tough love from good parents goes a long way in rearing good, honest and emotionally sane adults. Such as it is...

Why do Californians who want a fair tax system so opposed to overturning Prop 13?
03:32 AM on 02/19/2009
Why has it not occured to everyone that this woman is a few feet shy of a yard.

I'm sorry Gerber refuses to help feed those kids when they need it more than any of the multible births they HAVE funded.

We laud motherhood as being so great and then we stomp on a woman who sees herself as a super mother. My mother was the youngest of 14 kids and she wanted a dozen, but she quit after one. If she could have had a litter back then, I wonder if she would have.

Forget the mother and just help those babies. They have done nothing wrong.

No one IMPLIED SHE didn't . . . . but you will have to agree that a unemployed woman, with six children, unmarried, uneducated and on disability COULD have taken that $100,000 and set up a trust for the 6 to get an education rather than giving it to a hack doctor to have 8 MORE . . . . now "we taxpayers" INCLUDING granny will have to foot the bills . . . .
06:03 AM on 02/19/2009
are you talking about the grandmother or the mother of the children?

Those kids are damn cute! This woman should not have had 14 children (the Doctor told her to expect one or two babies at most)--but I'm not going to whine about food stamps that are less than one cent for every tax dollar.

I hope that clinics conduct better evaluations of their candidates.

The doctor that did this needs to be charged with the children's financial upbringing. He did it out of greed and expects us to pay. Others in his craft said "but we have guidelines - but not laws." No law - no fowl! If we do not pass inteligent laws concerning this behavior but still fund this litter - then we are the fools!
06:08 AM on 02/19/2009
I hope this will cause our legislators to come up with guidelines and laws that doctors have to follow so that something like this does not happen again.
06:10 AM on 02/19/2009
and yes, the doctor that enabled Octo-mom should be held liable for all the children that he made happen, not the tax payers

Should a woman have a choice to have children or not?
Why is it people complain all the time about whats going on in someone else's life?
I don't think this woman should get any media attention yet people seem fixated on this .
lets move on
01:52 PM on 02/18/2009
Lionsdenmother -- definitely, a woman has that choice. But on the side of children, don't you think they deserve to have sound minded, responsible and competent parents? Should we be producing children just because we have a "deep void" in our life that needs to be filled? Are people really that daft to think that by producing children that it is going to give that "love" that they have been seeking and missing in their lives? Ms. Suleman has six children and is still producing. Her arguement is that she needs children to fill that "lonely" void. Obviously she was not fulfulled enough with the six she has -- so she decided for one more (but got eight). Using your common sense -- don't you think that there is something wrong with this picture? Can you honestly ask yourself that these kids are really going to get the care and love that they deserve?
07:52 PM on 02/18/2009
Yes. And, while she may have only anticipated one more, she clearly wanted several.

In her interview with Ann Curry, she repeatedly said (incredibly) that she thinks all children are gifts form god, and that she felt unused embryos had the right to have a chance at life. So, even if the doctor only implanted one more embryo, and she had one more child, she would have tried again, because then there would have been 5 more embryos "waiting to be born, waiting for a chance at life."

So, had the doctor implanted one embryo at a time, and each one became a child, at the least, she knew she'd possibly have 6 more children - a total of 12.

So, she sort of knew all along that she might possibly double the size of her family.
02:51 AM on 02/19/2009
The key to your comments is ''parents'' and despite the current beliefs that mothers can raise children alone, this is pure fallacy. Each and every child deserves a mother and a father for their pyschological health and balance.

The world seriously needs some feminine/masculine balance to change our current thinking. As it is, we have socities still based on masculine power, and many homes now with feminine power (due to one parent homes) and it upsets balance.

What shocked me most was this woman's disrespect for her own parents who have obviously supported her all these years while she ''chose'' to produce children with no father and no visible financial support. I honestly pity them. At their age they should be relaxing in life, not raising children. Perhaps a course in gratefulness is in order here.
03:38 PM on 02/18/2009
you are paying for her 14 children because she is a single mom on welfare. SHE COLLECTS THOUSANDS A MONTH. Thats more than a lot legitimate families make.

She doesn't get thousands from welfare or food stamps. She was injured on the job and gets money from disability the way anyone who was injured on the job would.

The Welfare Act of 1996 tightened eligibility and created strict work requirements.
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=1996_Welfare_Reform_Act

Food stamps are less than a penny of every tax dollar and social safety net programs make up 9% of the federal budget.

Wipe that froth from you mouth and focus on what's really eating your tax dollars.

Nadya Suleman has become a symbol of irresponsible, instant gratification seeking, shallow, pop-culture worshipping, entitled, hot messes everywhere. Yes, we all feel for the children and even for the grandparents, but this woman is worthy of contempt. How dare she beg for money on the internet, then go get her fake nails re-done? What's more important, fake nails or feeding her army of kids? How dare she burden her parents, the taxpayers and her children by being so incredibly reckless? What an awful, sorry excuse for a mother. The kids deserve better. Their mom is mentally ill (look at all the lies she's told since she went public). They need to be removed from her care (such as it is--I use the term loosely).

Note to MiniMogul;
DId anyone ever consider the possibility that this woman, who may not be the brightest bulb on the tree, was pretty much used as a gynecological lab rat for the doctor who implanted her?
So, she chose to have her babies, all eight of them, instead of what is euphemistically referred to as selective reduction and thousands of people are outraged. Where are the raging right to lifers? Why aren't they demonstrating in this pathetic woman's defense? Hmmmm?
03:40 PM on 02/18/2009
because they support the right to life, not the right to bilk the government through a in vitro fertilization.

I am sure there are plenty of right to lifers that are glad she carried the babies to term, in fact maybe you should google your answer.... its out there
05:23 PM on 02/18/2009
Its obvious that she has issues is not thinking clearly. But the clinic that gave her the procedure should have been more ethical. With their education and experience in dealing with a variety of patients--it makes you wonder if the only thing they care about is fame and fortune. Creating life or multiple children should not be a lab experiment that ensures scientific success to go beyond natural bounds of human reproductive ability. If any of you on this blog was the professional providing the medical procedure to Nadya -- would you have done it? Especially knowing that she had already had six children, some with disabilities, and was receiving federal assistance. I think that this is an interesting question because it always elicits some intense answers when I discuss it with friends.

This woman is honest. I were her mother I too would be pissed off at her having more babies. But I would have kicked her out with the 6 kids instead of letting her live with me. The mother gave her daughter room to breed more.

Ghost - I always watch and enjoy The Learning Channel and feel alot like the people in this blog do. Are you suggesting that this woman's impulsive actions to have one more child (but she instead she had eight) okay? She was already having difficulties keeping a roof over the six she has now. And what about Ms. Sulman's parents? Do you think that they should continue to give their entire retirement pay (plus her father's paycheck now that he is going back to work) is an okay thing to do? Do you really think that this is what our tax system is made for? Should we not discourage opportunists who take advantage of the tax system who continue to dip in the "cookie jar" without the slightest remorse that they are actually effecting the other many disadvantaged people that are sincerely entitled to have these benefits? Ghost - just a hunch, but are you one of these people?

Would you rather the children starve?

My primary purpose is to expose hypocrisy, i.e. I want my rights, but I'll be damned if I'll give 'em to folks I don't like.

Had I not received such irrational and vociferous objections to my simple act of defending the defenseless I would have moved on a long time ago.

You became a member of HuffPo this month, for the SOLE PURPOSE of defending Nady Suleman and posting on her as much as possible.

THAT'S what moves you? Not the economic collapse, not the last election, not war in Iraq or in the Gaza Strip? Those things, bah, I don't care enough to comment.

But the octuplet lady! Her honor I must defend! Here is a cause that finally has moved me to take a stand and express my opinions!

The fact that YOU have the nerve to question other people's priorities is just laughable.

I don't understand why some people think she deserves handouts and donations. If 6 kids was not enough to satisfy her, and constantly leaning on your parents for help, because you don't work. When I see this woman out spending her money foolishy, she deserves nothing. Plastic surgery, mutiple IVFs, manicures. If you can't feed them, then don't breed them. The children need to be placed into better homes, that are financially stable. How can you love 14 kids under the age of 7 at one time? I agree the children are here, and need the proper care, but Nadya can not give this to 14 children. I don't know how one woman in her situation, thought she could handle all of this. You can have a big family, but don't expect tax payers and donations to pull you through. Get off you butt and work!!!! You got a paid nanny 500.00 a week, and parents to babysit. Milking the system needs to stop!!!
