**UPDATED AT 7 a.m. with more video, including that of baby Tripp**

Bristol Palin, the 18-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin whose pregnancy during the presidential campaign made headlines, taped an interview for Greta Van Susteren's "On The Record" on Monday night.

Both Bristol, appearing with her 2-month old baby Tripp for the first time, and her mother expressed skepticism about abstinence-only programs which her mother backed when running for governor in 2006.

When Van Susteren mentions abstinence in discussing Bristol's surprise pregnancy, Sarah Palin responded: "It sounds naive. Life happens."

Bristol also said that "everyone should be abstinent but it's not realistic... [sex] is more and more accepted among kids my age."

Bristol also warned about the dangers of teen pregnancy and said that she should have waited 10 years before having children.

"Of course I wish it would happen in like 10 years so I could have a job and education and my own house... But he brings so much joy. i don't regret it at all."

At the end of the interview, Sarah Palin gave a passionate speech against the fairness doctrine, which has been painted by conservatives as a prerogative of Democrats. She lauded a few members of the media whom she admires for asking tough questions - and all of whom happen to work for Fox News: Van Susteren, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck.

"Any attempt to squash these voices... that's a threat to our democracy."

Pro-contraception organization Choice Matters believes Bristol has provided an invaluable teaching moment and wants to make her it's spokesperson! Choose which pro-plan B T-shirt Bristol will wear!

Palin gets more and more Appalling. She mentioned the the Fairness Doctrine might rid the airwaves of the O'Lielys, and the Limpys etc. During the last month voices such as the wonderful Randi Rhodes are also silenced because there aren't enough station are owned by liberals. Where is the fairness? They claim that the media is liberal when the conservatives talk radio is way out of proportion to the liberal. Center for American Progress reports: " Conservative talk radio undeniably dominates the format: Our analysis in the spring of 2007 of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top
five commercial station owners reveals that 91 percent of the total weekday talk
radio programming is conservative, and 9 percent is progressive.
Each weekday, 2,570 hours and 15 minutes of conservative talk are broadcast on
these stations compared to 254 hours of progressive talk—10 times as much con-
servative talk as progressive talk. "
What is sad about is that so many people are being so dumbed down so they cannot make good decisions when they vote or support politicians. Randi, Mike Malloy, Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow may hyperbolize BUT THEY NEVER PURPOSELY LIE or MISGUIDE PEOPLE FOR THEIR OWN SELF INTERESTS AND PROFITEERING. Is Limpbaugh or anyone really worth $20 million a year?

Bristol's absolutely right, abstinence isn't a realistic form of family planning.
Pity she had to learn that lesson before she got her high school diploma, a husband and a job. Perhaps if her mother had been less of a right-wing idealog and more attentive to her children (instead of just having them), Bristol might be looking forward to college, instead of diapers right now?

Why is it every time I hear Sarah Palin talk I get the feeling that somewhere in this world there is a Village of people asking where did their Idiot go.

Wow, Sarah is talking so fast that it sounds like someone sped up the interview.

And totally interruptive! She pranced in and completely took over Bristol's interview. Bristol was doing just fine and then in comes mommy.....just look at Bristol's expression, she doesn't look happy at all. She didn't even get to finish her interview.

Then....Greta asked Piper if she had anything to say about the race. Piper said um, and Sarah interupted and didn't let her answer the question. Only a "um".

Sarah is a piece of work.....for herself, and only herself.

As for Bristol....she sounds very young, she held her own well, and seems much more intelligent than her mother. Good luck to you Bristol, I hope you achieve all that you wish for in life. Take good care of that baby. He is really cute!

i know, it was totally exploitative of bristol for greta to fawn over sarah like that... bristol's body language always speaks volumes too. i just wish that sarah would have said "and bristol can still get her education, and we will help make that possible"... THATS what responsible parenting is about. sarah makes it sound like bristol's life is over... this is not the 1950s people!

What a totally unexpected surprise to have the governor just happen to wander in during this interview with Bristol. I completely did not see that coming! Boy oh boy - Fox news sure knows how to throw a curveball at ya!

Palin was doing damage control, scared to death her daughter would say something like " abstinence is unrealistic". Funny, these people are so easy to read.

She sounds more level headed than her mom. Too bad Palin didn't preach condoms instead of denial.

Bristol also accidentally rebuffed another of her mother's educational policies by disproving intelligent design.

Does anyone believe that Bristol initiated this interview on her own? She claims to not have any regrets but then says "I wished it happened in ten years." thats regret. I wish her and Tripp the best. However this just makes her mom look even more shameless then she already did.

Like mother like daughter.... Bristol will be pregnant again within the next two years....

Silly, silly Sarah. Where was she when Fox was all Bush all the time?

Fairness Doctrine? It has not been used for 8 long years. Reinstate it now.

This is not clever at all! This is a blatant theft of one of Barack Obama's messages he hoped to convey to the American people while in office ....that families need to stick together to help one another out during both good times and bad.

That said, I do applaud the Fox team for doing this. No matter how they decided to arrive at making this issue a conservative one or an American one or even a human one, they did do it. They finally recognize that this is what being human is all about. Not "Jesus talk" or cowboy diplomacy, or bombing the s*it out of our Muslim brothers and sisters. About time. I say.

TLV,
I'm not a FOX NEWS audience, because,I learned in school 56 yrs.ago that there is a difference
between FACTS and FICTION,as well as LIES and TRUTH,IGNORANCE and INTELLIGENCE.
My agenda in life is to READ and LISTEN to people that I can learn something POSITIVE from.
I also have found that what the INDIANS said centries ago still hold;"WHITE MAN TALK WITH
A FOLK TONGUE",Why?,because if you are for moral values, and Christian Morals, you will
not change because what you advocate has the opposite effect in your family.Nor,would you
allow your child to get on television and glamorize that which God has condemed and you have been kicking and screaming that you are a conservative with conservative values.
VERY HYPOCRITAL AS WELL AS BLASPHEMY.

wow, there really are people who think like this. far out.
