Burris Begins Statewide 'Listening Tour' As Controversy Swirls

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Sen. Roland Burris made plans for what he calls a "listening tour" of Illinois several weeks before the latest wave of controversy broke about his appointment by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Burris still planned to embark on the trip Monday, even as Republican leaders were calling for an investigation of his conduct -- and possibly his resignation.

The driving tour would take Burris to Peoria on Monday and later to Bloomington and Normal. He then would return to Chicago on Wednesday for a City Club appearance, and later visit Rockford and North Chicago.

The trip was planned before Saturday's revelations about Burris' conversations with allies of Blagojevich concerning his appointment to the Senate seat formerly held by President Barack Obama.
