I Like ItI Don’t Like It

From The Hill:

A conservative legal group is suing the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve to reveal exactly how the first $350 billion of the financial services bailout was spent.

Larry Klayman and his organization, Freedom Watch, said they're concerned money from the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) was given to investment firms on the basis of the banks' political influence.

I read the article, apparently the Huffpo did not:

"His new group, Freedom Watch, isn't connected to the defunct right-leaning Freedom's Watch, which ran ads against Democratic congressional candidates before last year's election."

This Freedom Watch is not the one that Ari Fleisher was fronting.

Like most taxpayers, I want to know how exactly the first installment of TARP funds was (mis)spent and what we got in return for our investment. However, I find it interesting that Freedom Watch was absolutely silent about this whole issue until a Democrat was in charge in the White House. Where was their outrage when Bush and his crew were actually (mis)spending this money?

Any time there is a Bush in the area big money disappears. Neil at Silverado Savings and Loan, H.W. with Iran/Contra + The Carlyle Group and W with TENS OF BILLIONS IN CASH

shipped to Iraq and the TARP massive theft. Bushes are law breaking thieves who plunder on a massive scale.

It's kind of sad how nobody seems to care to ask the question of whether some of these "bold" initiatives of late are even constitutional. I don't see how allowing that much authority in the treasury secretary alone (that was given to Paulson) was constitutional, especially when money that has been appropriated is used for other reasons later on without consent by congress (use of TARP money for loans to the Big 3). Are we headed for the days of FDR when he tried to cram through a barrage of unconstitutional legislation and when it didn't work then tried to pack the Supreme Court with his cronies (what a great and wonderful man that four-termer indispensable dictator-lite was).

Supreme Court cramming started shortly after 1820. The litmus test used throughout the 19th Century was "pro-slavery" and then "pro-segragation" leanings. More recently, would anyone describe any of Bush's Supreme Court nominees as centrist? This is politics not potsyball. If Republicans had managed filibuster proof majorities during their glory years, if one can call Reagan-Bush-Bush that, we would have a bunch of really old white men wearing powdered wigs in the Court. Whinge about being out of power if you like. Just wait until the GOP fumbles away a couple more Senate seats, catering to their "base," you know, the 38% of the voters that truly believe as you do. Your worst nightmares will walk across your TV screen: Supreme Court Justices as left leaning as Alioto and Scalia are right. Oh, Happy Day.

You know what's really sad? I want to quip, "If you want to know where the money went, ask Hank Paulson." But I really don't think he knows either.

Sure he does - Paulson gets a monthly statement for each of his offshore accounts.

That would be better than what actually happened. It was another case of the Former Resident's folks randomly throwing cash out of a metaphorical airplane without even bothering to write down the map coordinates of the drops.

finally someone is standing up to the federal reserve and most of the commenters cant be supportive simply because the group suing is "rightwing". lame. and hypocritical. personally i voted for obama but i dont trust his treasury secretary nor do i trust tarp or the banks. we have a right to know where our money is going and i a sick of the non answers we have been fed. i dont see any "lefties" trying to do something. so all commenters who are against this group just because they are rightwing - ease up. we all are in this together. we need to make a stand and demand answers whether from the left or from the right.

Um, isn't this what Elizabeth Warren was tasked to find out?

So far, what they found is not looking good at all.

Forget that they're republicans.

Someone should be suing the government to find out where the hell the money went and how the judgments were made on who got how much money when.

What was the criteria that let Lehman Brothers fail and the other banks survive? How was that judgment made? I know so many people who lost their jobs there, including my temp job- how come that was allowed to happen but other banks got money?

It makes no sense.

Coin flips and the magic eight ball, I'm sure it was in Paulsen's implementation write-up. It's too bad that cocktail napkin was used to repair a nose blowing catastrophe. The money's flight was accounted for via the Dolly Levi method. So, it will be a bit difficult to track its eventual resting place; but, be assured it had a good time getting there.

This is totally hilarious!! Can't they just call W and ask him what he did with it? And, to whom were these alleged political favors given? It was their guy on watch at the time and therefore the real question is, upon receipt of this information what are they going to do with it? Use it to further pillory their party for its ineptitude? As the conservatives struggle for survival they are appearing more and more ridiculous.

Hope their cloaca doesn't use a septic system. None of the paper that will be flying is going to be biodegradable.
